I use Kindle for PC 2.3.0 (70673) and have no problems downloading books published before April 22, 2025. This is the last K4PC version to receive KF8 (AZW3) instead of KFX, but this is probably the case for Japanese books and the situation is different for English books.

The last version of Kindle for PC which did not support KFX at all was 1.17. Everything after would receive KFX for most books. There were ways to force non-kfx up to 1.34.

People are reporting they are still able to use the Kindle for Android/Bluestacks method. And E-ink Kindles. At least for the moment.

E-ink method from Kindle to Calibre worked for me, except that the cover art came through monochrome (as mentioned by developer).

Updated K3 to PW1: azw3/Kf8 format and colour images if they are colour. Some very old titles may be in mobi. PDFs from Amazon maybe wrapped as mobi or azw4. PW2 to current models (except Colorsoft): KFX format and mono images even if they are colour. Some very old titles may be in mobi. PDF may be wrapped as KFX. Colorsoft: KFX format and colour images if they are colour. Some very old titles may be in mobi. PDF may be wrapped as KFX. Scribe may get different KFX at times. Some titles may only download to Apps. Some to Scribe or Apps. Some prehistoric titles may download as topaz. These can only be usefully converted to image based PDF (not sure by what). There are a load of Kindle formats apart from reflowable text mobi/KF7, azw3/KF8 and KFX. Only those three convert well. |

I was able to successfully transfer a book released after the cut off using my old kindle paperwhite running firmware 5.9.7 (3330440020) and transferring/converting the file via Calibre.

The method that stopped working was using K4PC 2.4.0. Transferring from a Kindle has not yet been affected. That method still works on a Kindle ColorSoft with firmware 5.18.2.

This is the first I've heard of 5.18.2 working with calibre. Before I update the other thread, just want to confirm you have first-hand knowledge of 5.18.2 working and it's not a typo or second-hand report.

This is a second hand report. While I regard that person as fairly tech knowledgeable, I haven't seen this with my own eyes so anecdotal.

ouch. I hadn't registered that a new firmware was out. My PW5 is on 5.18.1. But I do wifi connect it because I use it with KU. I guess I could go ahead and force the update and see what happens? For science. Because I still have a K4BNT that gets azw3 so I'm good even if 5.18.2 breaks importing to Calibre.
edit: looks like I will have to manually download the new file and place it on my kindle. I took it off airplane mode and synced and restarted and synced, etc. and it says I'm up to date on 5.18.1. So we'll see if I get to it. Last edited by texasnightowl; 04-26-2025 at 10:57 PM. |

OK...done.
Manually download 5.18.2 for my 11th generation Paperwhite aka PW5. After it was updated, I sent a book to it over wifi. (This is not a newly published book, just a random book already in my kindle content.) After the download was complete, I connected the PW5 back to my PC and in Calibre, used the device button and did the right click > add to library thing. It worked. Switched back to library and it was in kfx format and Calibre was able to open it. Actually did a total of 9 books and all were added just fine and show in kfx format. Again, none of these are *new* as in since April 23rd but if anyone knows of a new and free book that I should try, I am willing to do so. But essentially, everything is working for me on 5.18.2 the same as it did on 5.18.1... |

And yet the date is the WHOLE POINT of the change, no? It has been stated repeatedly by different posters that it's the publication date that's the key. No one is satying anything is diffrent for books published BEFORE that date, as I understand it
