Sorry, Harry, I'm not one of those who think that the IJC is a real court, nor do I conflate freedom fighters, rebels, whatever you want to call them with terrorists. No doubt there is overlap.

If what you mean to say is that the US was interventionist before 9/11, that's certainly true.

The point I intended to make was that Bush's actions were entirely consistent with what used to be understood as a liberal approach to foreign policy. In fact, from the perspective of my sixty year old self, I am able to see what so many younger people do not, which is that Bush is not a true conservative, but rather, primarily a liberal - Wilsonian in foreign policy, and what used to be known as a Rockefeller - i.e. - liberal Republican on economic matters. This is camouflaged by his being a lukewarm member of the religious right on most cultural issues.

I would say he was more of a populist in the mold of Bill O'Reilly.

I think he used a dartboard to stake out his positions, then doggedly hung on to them once determined. In no way were his policies consistent, as they would be under someone guided by ideology.

Have I mentioned his Father deserved the tossing out of office he got?

I'm just happy with a president who can chew his food without it making the paper.

I'm a first time poster, so hope you will forgive if I step on any toes.

I was definitely not a fan of George Bush, but I feel sorry for Obama and would have felt sorry for McCain, had he been elected. I feel that whoever the President may be, he/she is so hampered by greedy, power-hungry politicians (of both parties)with their own agendas, that they can't govern effectively.

I'd be happy with a paper that let someone chew his food without derogatory comments.

I don't get why people say Obama has added more taxes. For 90%+ of the population, you now pay LESS tax than you did under Bush. I guess you aren't in that 90%, but I am. I pay less tax now. False arguments based on fallacies will get the republican party no where. When reality destroys your premises in seconds, you need to rethink what you are saying.

Sorry. I was no fan of bush but...

People who are not Obama supporters count ALL taxes, not just income tax.
That is where the discrepancy lies.

If Taxes on natural gas or electricity or fuel or cattle go up, I am paying more for heat or light or a hamburger. So yes Obama has raise the money coming out of my pocket and flowing to government to a great extent, even though I am in one of the lower income brackets.

Bush and his father were idiots, but teleprompter boy is no improvement.

Gentlemen, don't you think that this Mr Bush thread is just a tiny bit stale? Rather old news for the news and commentary section of the forum?

It's nice to see President Bush with a Kindle. Despite others here you are correct he was quite the reader during his terms in office. Here is an article on his reading in the last 3 years in office.

Unlike President Bush I just can't get myself to read enough non-fiction. I start so many but end up stopping and moving on to fiction.

The more ebook readers out there the more people will read.

I've read 30 books since the middle of January when I acquired my reader. That's about 500% increase for me.

Here's hoping other public figures will start using ebook readers and keep the trend going.

I would love to see what kinds of books he has on it!
A copy of the bible no doubt, used to guide his preferred international relations and military interventions.
