When somebody can show me a foldable unit that they've used for 3 years and the fold doesn't look all crummy maybe I'll be interested.
And maybe not. Folded that thing is still a brick.

The display offers 300 PPI for black and white text (the gold standard for e-readers) and 150 PPI for color content.
Yet they claim it's Gallery not Kaleido?

Also it looks like it might be a bit shiny. $600+ is a bit steep, though two 8″ eink simply with thin bezel and regular hinge might be that price, but last longer and be more like a book.

Flexible eink was announced and demoed by Philips (over 15 years ago) and Sony ages ago.

Yes.

I'm reminded of the demo roll up eink phone (about 2008?) that was then too fat for any pocket.

Saw a 7″ Pocketbook in a local shop. Much nicer than Libra/Libra with a very lightweight cover option (clear front) and discreet buttons (four I think: menu, left, right & back). They had a colour model too, but it was dead (needed charged?) with darkish blank screen. I'm more temped to that than this folding model.

I don't think that link is accurate. Neither the Verge link nor a translated version of the Moolink press release mention 150 PPI (https://news.readmoo.com/2025/04/16/mooink-v/) only 300 PPI. It's probably Gallery 3 as claimed.

I wonder if it simply wouldn't be more cost efficient to take two 6" panels and joint them together with some tape (I know, I know, I am exaggerating for dramatic purposes), and bam. cheap-ish foldable ebook reader that doesn't put pressure on the screen.

Looking at it I was wondering if the crease would be visible when using it so I went looking for some more pictures of it. Found it hard to find any more pictures than what appear to be the 'officially released' photos from the company, carefully angled to hide the crease?

After some more looking around I found this video of it -

https://www.linkedin.com/posts/e-ink...BPglkMc75lLpAo

and to my eyes it does seem the crease will be visible, what does everyone else think?

Looking at the press release, it does mention Gallery in multiple places. OTOH, it claims to be the first ereader to use a Gallery display which is incorrect. The Bigme Galy (RIP) and the reMarkable Paper Pro use Gallery 3 displays.

From the photos, it appears that the spine of the folded ereader is quite thick to allow for a larger bend radius compared to folding phones.

From the video you linked and all the photos that I've seen, the crease seems to be quite visible.

Maybe MooInk don't count those as Readers.

Are the Bigme Galy and reMarkable Paper Pro eReaders? Or eNotes? Or tablets? I bet Mooink's marketing department probably doesn't think they are eReaders...

All the folding devices have visible creases. IME you stop noticing them.
