Don't forget to handle situations where a comma is correct but not part of a flipped name such as John Smith, Jr. or John Smith, Sr.

Quality Check v1.4.2
Release Notes
https://github.com/kiwidude68/calibr..._check-v1.14.2 This has the adjustment to Swap author names for when there are multiple that it will "swap" the first author and then check other authors also need swapping before doing so. So "John Bloggs & Smith, Joe" will end up as "Bloggs, John & Smith, Joe" rather than previously of "Bloggs, John & Joe Smith" |

I've gone forwards and backwards through this thread, but haven't gone through all 84 pages (though nothing is showing up using search this thread) - I am curious which aspects of Quality Check are the important ones to check for people using modern Kobo ereaders?
I've read through the Quality Check help documentation and see that in a lot of places it says things like, "Use this check to find ePubs that may require their TOC being flattened if your device requires it." Is there a resource anywhere that says, "these are the checks that are most important/going to cause actual problems in your epub before sending to your Kobo?" |

Most are not device specific. Mobi checks mostly apply to Kindles.
Most are about having some aspect of our Library Consistent. The tool is not about verifying you have a valid EPUB (although some checks will flag missing required metadata) I like Author Initials a certain way. I want Fn (Mi) Ln I want cover sizes above x and less than y The tool helps find those that do not pass my required criteria. Mostly it is a toolkit to identify items that need some TLC in a few cases the FIX section help adjust the found items. |

As theducks says it is really about what floats your boat and how obsessed you want to be about the books in your library.
As the author of the plugin I only use a tiny fraction of the checks, mostly metadata related to spot where I have added books that aren't consistent with my naming standards. Almost all the checks were written 12+ years ago back was also when Sigil was very limited in what sort of validations it could apply, so people were interested in running rules about the internal structure of their books in bulk for various reasons. Ereaders have obviously matured over time - bugs and quirks that particular issues tripped things up on are no longer likely to be the problem they once were. So long as the books are readable on my device and scanning through the library on what to read next I am not seeing "eye sores" that is all I care about ![]() |

I would have to agree. Many of the tools I relied upon 10-15 years ago are needed today. Many of my original ebooks were OCRed scans of books which I owned in hardcover or paperback. Even many of the early commercial ePubs were riddled with errors. Now, it's been several years since I purchased an ePub and had epubcheck barf on it. I also correct most of the errors in author naming, etc. when importing the books and cleaning up the metadata since I haven't imported more than 20 ebooks at one time since I originally moved my library into calibre.
Admittedly, these days trying to do a mass metadata import doesn't work all that well since many sites now have extremely low tolerance for mass requests and your connection often gets blocked for 5 minutes to 24 hours. I do remember when my original Kobo (the one that talked to my Blackberry) barfed on filenames with ' in them. (A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court for instance). |
