What Are You Watching

We finished Adolescence last night. I liked it but the constantly moving camera was getting distracting by the end. The focus is very much on the perpetrator, I would have liked an episode about the family of the victim.

Continuing to watch the X-files (this is going to be an ongoing theme for quite a while! )

But this time I watched one of the most harrowing episodes 'closure' - It centers around a child killer that plays Santa at a North Pole village he owns.

The most poignant and sad bits to watch are Mulders interaction with the Ghosts of the victims, the music played in the background really suits the atmosphere and makes it all the more poignant and sad.

Hopefully the next few episodes will be a bit more lighthearted!

I finished up Billy Bob Thornton's "Landman" on Paramount+.

I enjoyed much of it, but there are two characters who are completely tangential to all other story lines. This would not be a problem if those two characters weren't also terribly annoying, self-centered, oblivious morons who make me want to throw things at the TV. I'd love to see a version of this with them completely excised.

I had a mixed reaction to this show too - I'll watch Billy Bob Thornton in just about anything ... but almost gave up on this several times

The daughter and the (ex) wife. The boyfriend doesn't leave much of an impression on me one way or another. Mom and daughter are pure T&A filler.

We finished the second season of Yellowjackets. I still like the series, however, after watching two seasons in two weeks I do find that the hallucination/(fever)dream/fantasy scenes are overused. Next week is the final episode of the third season so we're waiting for that to continue. But I do hope they use the hallucination scenes less than in the previous seasons.

I'm not sure what we're going to watch in the mean time. My sister wasn't in the mood for Good Omens, she does want to see The Last of Us, but is afraid it'll give her nightmares. She did want to see Chernobyl, so maybe she's in the mood for that.

Watched the first four episodes of Ludwig, and while I like it well enough, I don't feel they've done a good job explaining just what a "puzzle setter" is. Let alone explain why the main character is one referred to as "Ludwig."

Ah. In the UK it's obvious that he sets crossword puzzles. Crossword puzzle setters traditionally have a pseudonym in the UK. The explanation of Ludwig as his pseudonym does come in the series.

I guessed it was a puzzle creator from later context; I'd just never heard the term "setter" before. They also showed him working on many puzzles/games at the beginning of the first episode, so it was not clear to me that his forte was crosswords (nor did I know they had pseudonyms in the UK).

Thanks. I can wait on the Ludwig explanation, but I knew there was something cultural I was missing in the meantime.

Binged season 1 of The Gone on Acorn today - with the improbable premise of an Irish detective traveling to NZ to assist with tracking down 2 missing Irish citizens - kept my interest - but ended on a cliff hanger - hope Acorn streams season 2 soonish

I finished season 4 of The X Files and started season 5 during my stitching sessions. My sister and I started the latest season of Yellowjackets. Meanwhile, I'm trying to decide whether or not I'll watch the new season of The Last of Us weekly or if I wait until all episodes have aired so I can binge.

I have boxsets of The X-Files and its two spin-offs; The Lone Gunmen and Millennium. When I finish with The X Files I’ll continue with a rewatch of TLG and then Millennium. I still need to get the two movies on Blu-Ray.
