I don't know why people always make such a fuzz about Amazon. If you don't like Amazon, just stop using it. I don't like how they operate either, but I do like Kindle. Thus I purchase epub books from wherever I want and I always have my copy on my computer. Then I upload this epub to Amazon with their Send-To-Kindle service and in a few I have the ebook on my Kindle. If they remove SendToKindle service, then I will just switch to Kobo or Pocketbook. No big deal.

I stopped buying Kindle books a year-and-a-half ago, when changes to the Kindle rewards program made Kobo always cheaper. Now that changes to Kobo's price-matching program make this no longer the case, I'll probably buy the odd Kindle book or so again.

Amazon's not making any money from me even if I do, so no guilt even if I felt so inclined.

Amazon makes a ton of money from me from everything but books, no shame, as so do many other companies. I wasn't aware of the Kobo price-matching until recently which is a bummer.
