In the UK, publications are often seen as an important achievement. Perhaps if, as is suggested, you can sell your work as producing publications (possibly at the price of giving the tutor who eventually picks up the work co-authorship), that might be a useful negotiating tactic. |

GOD DAMNED BS POLITICS.
I'm neither playing gotcha, nor laserdrome - but I believe it to be totally braindead to prohibit laserdrome or gotcha as a response to the rampage in Winnenden ... (It's not as if the killer did even play gotcha...) Oh and the government wants to pass a law that allows the control of weapon owners without any suspicion ... (I dont own a gun, nor do I want one - but I believe searching the flat or house of s/o without even a suspicion is a path no government should take). AND I believe prohibitions of gotcha or laserdrome to be ineffective (w/o any reason) and I object ineffective or unreasoned prohibitions for general reasons... Are they even thinking before they write a law? |

In case anyone is wondering, tirsales is talking about a ban on Paintball games and laser tag. And here is a transalted link:

Apologies .. Gotcha/Paintball and Laser Tag / Laserdrome - I didnt realize the differences (Gotcha<->Paintball, Laser Tag<->Laserdrome)
![]() It's actually not only about a ban of Paintball and laser tags, but also about another tightening of the German laws regarding the private ownership of weapons. In effect they would state that any cabinet used to store arms would have to be biometrical secured (I dont really care about this - in the worst case it is a waste of money (last tightening regarding cabinets is only some years old), in the best case it increases security) - but it would also give the police / public order office to check on any weapon owner w/o prior suspicion (e.g. inspect his house in order to ensure that weapons are hold secure). In my eyes this is a grave violation of the sanctities of the home. So far the searching of a house requires the decision of a judge or (at least) (serious) danger in delay. Neither do I own weapons, nor do I want some nor am I competitive shooter or hunter. And I actually dont support free ownership of weapons - but I do believe that somewhere there is a limit where additional laws simply dont make any more sense and provide no additional security - and that (at the latest) any additional tightening is then (quite simply) plain wrong. Thanks, LazyScot. Yes, we have a Visitor, as a near-last resort. There's also a possibility of judicial review, among other options.

The Visitor may be called upon to give advice where an institution expresses doubt as to its powers under its charter and statutes. However, the most important function of the Visitor was within academic institutions, where the Visitor had to determine disputes arising between the academic institution and its members. Traditionally the courts have been exempted from any jurisdiction over student complaints.

I am all about the multi tasking and have been doing EVERYTHING I can to get them to get out and work. I used to do what they do, they are not pulling any wool over my eyes, like they have on my supervisor. I have asked her if I can just start wearing work clothes, strapping my tool belt back on and show them how to do it.
