I don't think you can do so much about what people think about your chatter. You can only be yourself, and if what you have to say is intelligent, the right people will know. We can only do our best, and sometimes that is unfortunately not enough.

As for control of emotions, that might be good, but the backside in my case, is that I sometimes let other people walk over me and don't say stop when I should. I am not always good enough at protecting myself and my feelings.

I'm one of those annoying people who will talk to other people in my line at the grocery store, amusement park, etc., much to the angst of my very introverted husband. I've also been told I have a very approachable aura. No matter where I am, people feel comfortable enough to come up to me and ask for directions, information, whatever. I thoroughly enjoy spending time with my family and hate going anywhere alone, whether it's to the mall, the park, wherever. I am constantly dragging my kids to the grocery store! The funny thing is, I am basically a shy person, although, when I tell people that, they laugh.

On the other hand, I also love the time I spend alone at home when everyone else is at school or work. I have time to get my chores completed, read, work on my crafts, or do a little gardening. No one is asking me where anything is, asking them to do them a favor, etc. If I could only do something about those pesky tele-marketers!

Sticking with the Astrology theme, maybe it's because I'm a Gemini, split personality and all that!

I'm going with friendly with shy undertones!

I also have a bit of DixieGal's problem that once I get going, it's hard to stop me!! My mom used to call me, "Motor-mouth" (and probably still does)!! Not to mention my problems with self-censoring! I have embarrased my husband (and kids) on more than one occasion by talking about things they felt were too personal. My daughter is constantly telling me, "TMI"! I can also be so impatient in a conversation that I step over other people's comments. It's a terrible habit and one that I am continually trying to correct.

Maybe I talk so much to strangers because I spend so much time with the kids and dogs. It's nice to have a little adult conversation now and then.

Not wimps, please. Their strength that we lack so badly is the ability to think things through before acting on impulse.

There is a lot to be said for impulsive actions! I am pretty sure I wouldn't be here today if my parents hadn't acted impulsively!!

I am an introvert and socially inept. My partner is the exact opposite. We have been together for 15 years and have never had an argument. This is the first time I've told this story; my partner, on the other hand, tells it to all who'll listen.

Also, I have acute hearing while my partner is half deaf. Neither of us likes to listen to the radio and find excessive noise very annoying. I've just reduced our TV bill by half, reducing it to just the basics, because we seldom watch it anymore except for a few minutes in the morning to catch up on the news.

I could get by with the love of my close family and our dog and a very few selective friends. I dearly enjoy when my partner takes the dog out for a *long* walk but am ever so glad to greet them lovingly when they return.

If I could *find* a deserted beach, I would gladly go there for a while and read. Eventually though, I would return to the responsibilities of my family. We enjoy reading together, often the same book at the same time.

And this thread is just asking for this old favourite:

And recently, I've been enjoying my new friends at MobileRead.

WDE. (coming out of my shell at MR)

I would gladly hold your hand if it would make it easier for you. I sort of picked up on your shyness when we had our meetup. Don't know why, you are not too ugly and have a charming personality and sense of humor.

Awww' That's what being an extrovert is all about, I see a lady bunny & get this impulse.
Thats why we will rule the world by out breeding everybody else - or is that some religion which I must not mention in case I offend them

I undoubtfuly prefer to be alone, although I confess that if I think about being really and unoptionally alone, I would be upset. Maybe it's the healthy part of me whispering that I should socialize more, and that sometimes nags me.
