K3 Prevent OTA v1 update on 3G?

But the hack will not prevent OTA silent updates when 3G kicks in.

I'm using a Kindle 3 Keyboard that has 3G and Wifi (B006).

The steps I did post JB/MKK/KUAL:

1. Copy the backdoorlock folder into my extensions directory.
2. Lock the back door.
3. Check status (showed it was locked).
4. Enabled Online Connection, and once 3G kicked in the silent update happened and I could no longer use KUAL until I re-applied the MKK update.

I also tried doing it with the update_backdoorlock_12_k3g_install.bin but it didn't make a difference.

I'm not sure if something has changed and so far I'm trying to avoid going down the SSH path to edit the hosts file, or opening the unit to remove the 3G module / antenna. I'm also not sure if this hack prevents Wifi updates as well as there hasn't been a lot of chatter in that topic in recent times.

Thank you for any help you can provide as I only need the connection to sent books via Wifi from Calibre.

3.4.3 was the firmware I had prior to jail breaking.

I'm not sure what the silent update is doing or why it gets triggered as I'm using the latest firmware, but it breaks my MKK update the moment 3G is turned on.

Unless it is triggered due to something not matching on a verification check with the files.

The hack to prevent a silent update sadly doesn't work in this case.

Perhaps the OTA Rename KUAL extension can address this?

No luck unfortunately.

I even tried this method with the folder: https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaki...sable-ota.html

I also tried using the KUAL Helper extension to block OTA updates.

Still doesn't prevent OTA updates from patching.

Looks like I'll just keep Online Connection off and load books via USB. Thanks for the help either way.

Is your Kindle 3 unregistered?

I know that on Kindle 4 it breaks MKK when it's unregistered and goes online. The solution is to just register it, or always keep it offline. Maybe it's the same for Kindle 3.

Yes, this would work but I would need to open the back of the unit up. I could also just disconnect the hardware at that point.

Then I would need to be sure I can block anything via Wifi for Amazon updates/patches.

No, I have not registered the device. I didn't know you could for how old it was. Sadly I need to go online if I want to sync my books via Wifi with Calibre.
