We're more than 2 and half months since a jailbreak for every modern Kindle was released and Amazon hasn't put out a firmware to patch that yet, despite knowing of the flaw for a year or more in advance. I don't think they're in a hurry to fix much of anything at this point.

The current 5.18.1 firmware finally hides this icon (it only appears if "Show writing toolbar" is enabled).

The Colorsoft and 2024 Paperwhite have a 'double tap to turn pages' feature.

Problem manually updating original scribe from MacBook Air - M2
I've had no luck manually updating the original Scribe firmware to 5.18.1 . I'm using the latest RC for Sequoia. I have tried:
  • rebooting both devices
  • Send to Kindle
  • Kindle USB File manager
  • different cables (that I've tested for transfer and power)
  • OpenMTP
  • Android File Transfer
  • keeping Calibre open
  • keeping Calibre from running.
I have no problem connecting my oasis, it mounts and does it's thing.
I am able to 'see' the Kindle using Disk Utility but a partition is not mounted. Any ideas?

Is the Kindle being mounted elsewhere? On Linux and MacOS systems, there seems to be only one connection allowed.

Does this work with a non-beta version of MacOSX?

Other Kindles connect and mount fine. When the Scribe connects, the scribe screen looks like it should (connected screen). It has worked in the past. (I did manually upgrade it. I don't recall 100% but I recall using OpenMTP and Calibre saw it. Now when I connect it, the only thing I can see is with DiskUtility- It shows the Scribe, but the other partitioin doesn't mount.
