BrowserCache should work with those if you log in manually in the browser. |

ahh...potentially important since some authors do use images in story sometimes (for text conversations for example) instead of formatting. I don't usually care so much about fan artwork / covers, etc.

Is there a way to tell if a successful download was from cache or not?

Not as a feature, but you can look in the job log for "HIT (GET) BrowserCache" lines.

Mostly out of curiosity, would the cache for the browser in Thunderbird be usable in FFF? Sometimes new stories in RSS I open in that instead of browser. open_pages_in_browser would probably not work.

One-chapter stories didn't work - no link to chapter index, couldn't navigate directly as no address bar. Multichapter stories worked if is_adult:false, otherwise it tripped up on the ?view_adult=true. It was faster than Vivaldi. Are FF-based faster? EDIT: Also there's a subolder under the Firefox/Thunderbird cache2 folder called "doomed." Curious. ![]() Last edited by ownedbycats; 03-28-2025 at 09:26 AM. |

Comment out username under [archiveofourown.org] in personal.ini.
The Get Story URLs from Page code logs in for AO3 if you have username set. Now that AO3 is having problems, it's less helpful. |

Hello, I'm fairly new to using fff and I am having some trouble understanding the Saved Metadata column and how it can be used. This forum has been a massive help to me so far but I cannot figure out how to use the saved metadata to update other custom columns.
Up until now I have been using settings in my personal.ini to put metadata like characters, rating, status, fandoms, and update date into my custom columns. I was even able to adapt some code from a user on this forum to categorize my stories by word count range in a composite column. Recently I was able to set up a custom column for Saved Metadata according to the fff wiki description and got it to populate when I updated a story's metadata from the website. Based on previous discussions I have found, I am supposed to be able to use this column to update other composite columns using Update Calibre Metadata from Saved Metadata Column. However, I cannot figure out how getting metadata from Saved Metadata column into composite columns works despite the many discussions and examples surrounding it here. I feel like I am missing something extremely obvious at this point. Say for example I have metadata for an AO3 story in my Saved Metadata column and I want to update a new column with freeform tags using it instead of the website. Do I need to add something to my personal.ini specifically to make this work? Do I need to configure a column meant to be filed by Saved Metadata in a specific way in fff configuration setting? What template do I need to use for the freeform tag composite column? Since my Saved Metadata column is a long text interpreted as plain text I have no idea how to extract information from it like one would with, say, an existing word count column. If anyone can help me I would really appreciate it. My main goal right now is to get information from one place to another so that I know how for the future. Thank you! |

problem updating anthologies when transferring to Kobo
I'm having an issue getting updated anthologies to replace the older version on my Kobo Libra Colour. This has previously worked fine, but since FFF was throwing errors when trying to update anthologies for awhile, I haven't actually had the opportunity to try it in a little while. This time I successfully updated an anthology, which is how I discovered the transfer error.
I'm running Calibre 8.0.1 on Windows 11 and FanFicFare 4.43.0. I have FFF set to update anthologies if there are new chapters, and the epub is definitely updating correctly in my Calibre library. Kobo Touch has "Do not treat replacements as new books" checked, so it should overwrite the old version of the anthology. When I send the updated anthology epub to device, Calibre says the job worked fine. However, when I eject the Kobo, the book has not updated. When it is connected, I can see the date of the file on the Kobo is the old date, while the one in Calibre has the new update date. I don't think this info is relevant, but yes, I always reconnect the Kobo after send to device/eject to be sure metadata updates. That shouldn't (and doesn't) have an impact on the file transfer, but I figured someone might ask. I tried looking for this issue in the forums and on Reddit in the Calibre forum, but I haven't found a fix yet. Thanks for any help you can provide! |
