Red face Unsolicited Feedback

Hello, I know I haven't contributed, and I know you have worked really hard on the browser based e-reader, and I know there are technical challenges, but...what I really want is to be able to point the thick desktop Library and Reader to a remote server. The browser based equivalent will just never be the same. Please please please consider it.

Unless you are planning on multiple users accessing the database, why not keep that library on your local machine thus avoiding all the issues with accessing an SQLite database over a network connection? Not to mention that SQLite locks the entire database when a single user writes to it so performance can get horrendous. I won't even get into the legal aspects of having copyrighted material accessible to multiple users. OH! I hear someone saying they would only have public domain materials available. We all did need a good chuckle.

You may want to check the Quirks, Caveats, and Gotchas In SQLite page. Pay special attention to the SQLite Is Embedded, Not Client-Server item.

If you want a multiuser library management system, there are quite a few capable systems out there though few even close to calibre's price.

I am very familair with a challenges of SQLite. I was looking for a solution to help my daughter in college manager her textbooks. We haven't talked about it yet but I presume she will be bringing her workstation and laptop, so there will be at least two devices in play. I'm starting to warm up to the browser reader, however is there a way to make it load more pages into memory? It is kind of jarring when trying to scroll through the book when it blanks out the screen and loads the next few pages. In that regard I still like the local reader better.
