The automatic adding of page numbers is only designed to work for books in reflowable format. It would need changes to function properly for comics and manga. I will consider that for the future but it is not something I plan to work on anytime soon.

I'm not a programmer, but it sure seems simple to assign one page per jpg or PNG. The way Kindle Create handles it by combining two jpgs to one page number seems so overly complicated to me.

Do not use calibre viewer to check AZW3 fixed layout. Try it on a an actual Kindle (or Kindle app or even Kobo or PocketBook which have AZW3 support). calibre viewer converts to AZW3 to ePub, and it does not support fixed layout ePub.

Version 2.15.0 - 11 Apr 2025

The default conversion behavior has been changed to create a personal document (PDOC) instead of a book (EBOK). Replace the "Create personal document instead of book" conversion option with "Create book (EBOK) instead of personal document (PDOC)". The CLI option "--book" has been added. The "kfx_output_ignore_asin_metadata" plugin tweak has been eliminated.

Detect Kindle Previewer versions up to 3.92.0.

Many plugin users in my calibre group are reporting CLI errors c0000005 when converting an epub to kfx with Kindle Previewer 3 installed. What do you need to see this error or is it a known issue?

There have been occasional reports of this error, mostly from Linux users. I would need a conversation log and information about the platform being used in order to tell more about what is going wrong.

It does actually work with 3.93.0, at least for me. I have updated the first post of this thread to reflect that.

I do not know why some people have problems with the Previewer failing to convert. There may be some other software on their system interfering with it. Or perhaps there is an issue with some interface or book languages. So far I have not been able to duplicate this problem.

I'm using KP 3.80 and every time I've converted to KFX, it's worked.

Out of curiosity, why the change in default behavior? As a Kindle Paperwhite user, is there some new reason why I might want to consider having my items marked as documents on my device?

It is my understanding that if the book is labeled as a document, Amazon won't evaluate it against your library and possibly remove it, which happens sometimes with sideloaded books.
