Actually I think functionality is different between Kobo's gDrive and Dropbox implementation. I added books to each of the cloud providers and selected them from the Kobo. All books appeared.

I dropped the books from both gDrive and Dropbox; the file from gDrive remained on my Kobo; the one from Dropbox disappeared.
