Weird. It appears that it is (now) bigger than the Library view (underneath).
What happens if you type a Ctrl-A inside the box, then hit delete?

The search area may need to have a size limit applied. to stop infinite expansion

What OS and version of Calibre?
Is it a recent version of the PI?

It wasn't. The problem disappeared after updating the plugin, but now I don't want to check whether it happens again, just because I don't know how to fix it.

Tnx for getting back with the info.
Glad the update fixed things. Many times the devs play catchup with changes to the building blocks used by Calibre and plugins that also got updates (not all are good for us)..

hi, I have a question regarding fonts. I have used this plugin to identify epubs with embedded fonts because I've been having issues with not being able to change fonts on my kindle so I want to delete the fonts. I have too many epubs to manually check them but I find it that it doesn't find most problematic ones.. am I doing something wrong?

A simpler solution might be to use the Modify ePub plugin with the remove embedded fonts option as the only one checked and run it against your library. The Quality Check plugin should report any ePubs with embedded fonts if they are done correctly but that would still leave removing the fonts up to you.

Don't do a mass delete of the embedded fonts. You might find you want some of them. What I do is using the editor, I check what the fonts are and I delete the main body font as I don't want that. Then I check what the other fonts and decide if a want any of them or not. Once you've deleted the main body font, you'll be able to use your choice of font.

For example, sometimes you get a handwriting font that I would keep.

Well said.

I cringe every time I hear a bulk 'nuke' "x" from a Library.

Those folk might as well go back to simple monospaced text. of the 1980's attempt of e-books on a dumb terminal.
ASCII Art anyone?

@belle Cherry pick what you nuke (eg Times, CharrisSIL) or choose to make use of the devices "fonts" folder. I don't know about you, but I only can read only so many books a year and my device has more than a years TBR (I delete finished books, That is Calibres job to Bulk Store for latter reread consideration.

@kiwidude would it be hard to have QC optionally use a font filter list (Either AlwaysKeep or ToRemove) ?

I too disagree with blind bulk deleting. The problem is you don't know what you are deleting. A good example is the book The Martian. It uses monospace fonts in a way that you want to keep them. I did not like the choice of fonts embedded so I removed the body font and changed the embedded monospace font to just monospace so I would get the monopsace font RMSDK was using. That worked. Has I bulk deleted, I would be missing out on a batter reading experience.

I agree with asking for a font filter list.

I typically end up with lots of authors with commas (my goal is none as all my authors are e.g,. Charles Dickens). I also have lots of books with multiple authors. Over time, and for various reasons I seem to end up with only some of the authors having commas (e.g H. G Wells & Dickens, Charles)...now that would be an interesting book. Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to expedient ways to filter these authors and using the QC plugin swap just the authors with commas? Thanks for any ideas.

QC will find all with the search. That should reduce the list significantly (hopefully )
Simply open the Tag Browser: Authors and run your eyeball down the list looking for the odd ball. Fix that the traditional way (you can change that in the Tag Browser. It affects all places used.

Thanks, that's useful.
Was hoping for some way that with entries such as H. G. Wells & Dickens, Charles I could just swap the one entry using the QC Swap Author FN LN <-> LN, FN
But your solution does improve things for me, cheers!

Glad to help.
Had about a dozen of those things years back, so that is why I knew that a mix could not be fixed by the QC Fix method.

Here is my 2c on the commas issue that is talked about above (thanks to those suggesting the user workaround with the Tags browser).

The problem is that the current Fix menu item is explicitly "Swap xxx", rather than separate Fix menu items for adding commas or removing commas. So it doesn't know which operation you are trying to do - it just looks at each author name independently for that selected book and flips it to the opposite of what it currently is.

There are two potential fixes for this I can think of.

The first is to always flip the first author listed in the book, then make sure that all the other authors for it (if any) are only flipped if needed to match that outcome. So if you have a book by "Bob Smith & Jacobs, Steve" and then choose the Fix -> Swap menu, it will see Bob Smith has no comma, convert that to "Smith, Bob & Jacobs, Steve" leaving the second author alone since it already has one, and vice versa.

The only downside to this is that you might have to use the "swap" feature twice to get the behaviour you want if it isn't the first author that needs swapping. But it is I think a more intuitive result (to get all authors of the book matching the same way around) as I can't think of a use case where you wouldn't want that behaviour.

The other option (or perhaps in addition to the above) is to have two more separate menu items. One which forces the authors to have commas that don't already have them, and one that does the opposite. On the plus side it would mean that it avoids someone accidentally swapping when they didn't mean to. As you could bind your shortcut key/action chain to the specific format you want, and if it is already the right comma/no comma option then it does nothing, rather than you needing to do another swap afterwards (or gate the action chain with a regex looking for a comma). On the minus side it is more noise in the plugin menu, more translation work etc.

Any thoughts appreciated.
