How do I manage author's aliases with Calibre?

So I ran into a situation where I have several books by the same author, some use a different transliteration of his alias while others use his real name.
On Calibre, I use Author sort to keep them bunched up together. when sorting by author. The problem is when I transfer the books to my Kobo they're all over the place.
Is there a clever way to manage that? I didn't see an option to use author sort instead of author when sending to device.

You will probably have to create a metadata plugboard (in your Calibre Options) to put Author Sort into Author field when sending books to the kobo. I havent' tested it out, the source template might be as seimple as {author_sort}

Another possibility might be to choose a standard name for the author and then to add as a "second" author the particular name used on that particular book but then limit the sort name to just the standard name. Thus, the standard might be J R R Tolkien but a secondary name could be John Ronald Reuel Tolkien or John R.R. Tolkien, etc. Not sure if this would work, but it might be worth trying.

I read a lot of fan fiction and a number of FF authors have accounts on multiple site. Thus if you are not careful you can end up with multiple copies of the same book from 'different' authors.

In a previous MR thread on Author Pseudonyms there was a suggestion to use an Alias to manage them. (Sorry but I didn't bookmark the link). This has worked out very well for me.

What I have done is:

1. Use an Alias for each author with multiple names.

2. Use a Column Icon on the Author column to indicate that a particular author has an Alias.

3. Create a Custom Column to contain the author's alias. Be careful here, the first time I did this I forgot to inset the standard author name if there is no alias.

4. Use a Metadata Plugboard to replace the Author with their Alias. This keep all books from the same author together on the reader.

I can include the templates, if anyone is interested.

I was starting to realize that something similar to this might be required, Thank you. Is this the thread you're referring to?
