I've switched to Kobo, encouraging at least one favourite author to consider not being Amazon exclusive (he makes his living on KU, so that's difficult), but I can't see myself plumping for Kobo+ or the VIP program. Frankly, I just don't buy all that many books any more, except for the occasional big sale.

I was unsure about the VIP programme. But you CAN use discount codes to get it, so you can probably find at least a 30% code that works, taking it down to £4. So you only need to buy more than £40 of non-price-matched books in the year to make it worthwhile.

I'm hoping to get enough VIP points to use them to renew next year.

And I'm also working my way through my first £70 for £60 gift-card offer, although I'm not including that discount in my price calculations, although perhaps I should.

Having a good balance in my Kobo account does make price-matching less hassle. It goes out and then a lot of it comes back in.

$70/$10 here too, and I'm still waiting for my $10 after 50 hours. I just got off the phone with a CSR and his inital response was "it was bought on the 24th" to which I pointed out that it was bought on the 25th in my local timezone as stipulated in the T&Cs in the email, so now I have to keep an eye on the clock to make sure the bonus arrives in the next 22 hours

Both my £10 bonus credits and nearly all my price matches has gone through with an issue.

The only time (so far) that I've had a problem with a price-match was when I bought two very similar books on one order.

Just some rantiness and head-scratching here.

My last Kindle purchase was in November 2023 when Amazon nerfed their Kindle rewards program. Since then, the Kobo price-match program has worked flawlessly for me and I regretted not using it much sooner. But. My last price-match was in February and it seems as if this program has been nerfed as well.

This is going to have the effect of returning me to my old ways: buying from Kobo when the prices are the same but buying from Kindle when a sale price makes it cheaper. I prefer Kobo books but not to the extent of losing money on them.

Here's the head-scratcher. The common explanation is that Kobo has changed their policy in response to an inundation of orders from angry former Kindle customers. Huh? So they've picked up a ton of new customers and their response is to drive them away? Why, Kobo? Wouldn't it have made more sense to eat any loss at least for a while, while they try to lock down some loyalty even if of only that of habit? And adding insult to injury, all this done without any specific change in policy, just a difference in how they apply the small print, so price matches that would have gone through readily are now rejected? Beats the heck out of me.

It reminds me of the days when "Kobo being Kobo" was a watchword for the inexplicable.
