Someone earlier asked about getting a corrupted file related error.
I recently discovered that extracting the file outside of KCC first using 7zip or The Unarchiver can fix it. Apparently KCC using the builtin `tar` can cause extraction issues in certain situations. Until this is fixed use that workaround. Also ComicInfo.xml not being read with cetain file structures was fixed in 7.2.2. And temporary files are now written next to source files instead of on main SSD. EDIT: Another bug with a workaround: file splitting doesn't work in certain situations still. I fixed another corner case. In the meantime, just extract outside of kcc first then convert. EDIT2: put those fixes in 7.2.3 Last edited by axu2; 02-28-2025 at 11:48 PM. |

7.3.0 was released. The recent speed optimizations make KCC run 2x as fast for me. Also fixed the error message handling so it doesn't show error messages that are just a single number.

Nastily, Microsoft Defender flagged KCC_7.3.0.exe as being infected. I ran it in a sandbox and nothing showed up so I set Windows Defender to allow the file. Oddly using VirusTotal, both Microsoft and SecureAge found KCC_7.3.0.exe to be infected while neither detected any issues with KCC_c2e_7.3.0.exe & KCC_c2p_7.3.0.exe.
Edit: Equally oddly when I built KCC locally, Windows did not gripe about it. Last edited by DNSB; 03-04-2025 at 04:39 PM. Reason: Tried local build just for fun |

KCC is an unsigned Python app, so false positives are too common.
I’ll look into open source code signing options. |

Free code signing on Windows provided by SignPath.io, certificate by SignPath Foundation
KCC 7.3.1 is the first version where the exe is signed! We join the ranks of other SignPath signed apps like Vim, Heroic Games Launcher, etc. https://signpath.org/projects/kindle-comic-converter/ Fixes several issues that snuck into 7.3.0. Now that we are code signed, Windows Defender should no longer be an issue! Overall, KCC runs 2x as fast as compared to 7.2.2 for me. I wrote this summary of the app for the website: Kindle Comic Converter is a Python app to convert and optimize manga/comics for eink readers like Kindle! It was initially designed for Kindle but also supports Kobo, ReMarkable, and more! Supported source file formats include JPG, PNG, GIF, CBZ, etc and supported output formats include EPUB, MOBI, and CBZ. |

Sadly, 3 antivirus vendors flag 7.3.1 as being an issue. Again, I'm pretty certain that these are false positives seeing as Avast, AVG and Zillya also flagged earlier versions as being an issue.
The first time I ran KCC 7.3.1 on Windows, I got the Windows Protected Your PC popup so clicked on More info and Run Anyway. The images are from another program that gave the same popup. |

Hi everyone,
I just bought a Pocketbook Era Color after few weeks of benchmark & reading Reddit reviews. I use Calibre & KoReader. My issue is that I find for comics (PDF) the pages are turning super super slow. The color feature for comics is the reason why I bought the device in color, so that my son can use it in long car trip for example. It takes so long to turn pages (the light is on so i can see it's "thinking"), that he's not interested. Someone on Reddit mentionned it's good to keep the comics in PDF format as it's more readable than Epub. What would be your advice to make it more efficient, except returning the device? ![]() ![]() |

PDFs can be very computationally intensive. It's fine for PCs and fast mobile devices, but ereaders don't have a lot of power. So I would reccomend a lighter format like EPUB or CBZ. If your source is humble bundle, the PDFs are hilariously SUPER HIGH QUALITY but will bring ereaders to a crawl.
Also, just released KCC 7.3.2 with additional bugfixes and should give zero warnings/false positives on VirusTotal. Changed the windows build process to the original process not using docker. Last edited by axu2; 03-11-2025 at 07:06 PM. |

For the curious, obtaining an open source certificate involved an application process and passing an audit. This was the response after my initial application. (also realized I introduced a bug in 7.3.1, so 7.3.3 is now out too)

Nice!
![]() Time to test inter-panel crop option. Btw, is it fine to use cropping mode and inter-panel crop? Or I have to pick one of these? |
