I've read about 4 of the books (all except most recent are available via Kindle Unlimited). Very fun.

I always pictured the protagonist as 'female' (as author's stand-in maybe) even though self descriptions always use gender-neutral it/its. But I think Alexander Skarsgård is a great casting choice. Long may it run!

I enjoy most all of the series on ATV+, the movies are more hit or miss.

I have Network Effect (book 5) on hold at the library to get the GraphicAudio version. GraphicAudio audiobooks are very good.

Me too. I think because the author is female and that knowledge is always somewhere in the subconscious.

But I don't mind the male actor. I guess it's pretty hard to find someone big, tall and with an androgynous face; and if you use a lot of makeup, you'll lose the nuances of facial expressions, which in this case are pretty important.

I previewed a few of them and wasn't sure I'd like them. I have kinda gone off audiobooks and podcasts altogether since retiring as I am more interested in using my ears for listening to music and creating some myself. And a large proportion of my current reading consists of graphic novels in the usual digital format.

I'm not sure when I'd get around to listening to them, but will probably talk myself into getting them.

I had the impression that murderbot/SecUnit was female also. As are most of the characters in the first three novels, even if they have male sounding names and described to give the impression they are male, they then turn out to be female. I guess that is intentional by the author? eg you wouldn't immediately think that Don, Gerth and Wilken are female names- but who knows what the future will be like.
Just reading chapter 5 of Rogue Protocol it is confirmed that SecUnit is female...

It has no gender. The speakers are talking about its alter ego, not knowing it's actually a SecUnit, not human.

Yes, I agree. I never thought that Murderbot had a gender. It wouldn't need one for its job.

Looking at the fanpage wiki, it says that it has no sex organs. Which is what I remember thinking at the start, but I don't remember what was actually written about it.
