Yay I've finished all my synopsis at last
I've at last finished adding a synopsis to all of my current ebooks
![]() I create a new page at the end of the book, paste in the synopsis and then add it to the Table of contents (not the page at the beginning of the book, don't know how to do that, but the content menu you use to navigate the book) using Calibre of course! The main reason for doing this is quite often by the time I get to a book on my Kindle I've forgotten what it's about ![]() Does anyone else edit all of their books in a certain way as soon as they get them? Add things in or whatever? |

I create a character summary which I add to the end of the book as an appendix. It's a quick reference of who the character is and how they fit into the story. Not all books as some don't need them, but the longer stories with multiple story arcs need them. Sometimes I forget who a character is when they haven't been around for a couple of hundred pages. I don't add a synopsis to the book. I add that into the Calibre metadata page and it then gets transferred as metadata to the Kobo. Though it is not a real synopsis, just the blurb on the back cover of the book. I don't use an inline TOC. I just use the toc.ncx and nav.xhtml. |

I never thought of doing that! How does it show up in the book/ how do you access it when your reading the book on your device?

You can add what calibre calls a metadata jacket by selecting "Insert metadata as page at start of book" during a conversion as an option in the conversion under the Structure Detection tab.
See Insert metadata as page at start of book in the calibre FAQs. I don't bother with this since on a Kobo ereader, the book details show that information however I do edit editable ebooks to clean up the CSS and reformat the book to how I want them to look. A very boring look but it works for me. |

On a Kobo you access it from the Book Details. I also send the synopsis to my Kobo with calibre, along with collections and series information. And I edit the formatting of all my ebooks. And delete all the extraneous stuff, like ads, excerpts from other books, praise & reviews etc. etc. Last edited by Sirtel; 03-04-2025 at 06:26 PM. |

Anyway, some screenshots of how it looks on a Libra2 As @Sirtel states, probably can't be done on a Kindle. |

All I've ever done is (try to) add covers to a few epubs when they were missing. When the reader shows the cover during sleep, it's very disappointing to have a blank.
Part of the deal for me is the convenience. I buy a book on any web browser, and it's ready to read on my reader. I don't need to give myself extra homework. OK, that only actually works for me with kindle books right now - my epubs are downloaded, added to Calibre and transferred via USB - but that's probably why 90% of my ebooks are kindle books. |
