You would find it looks more natural as you got used to it. No more judder. Less blur, and overall more enjoyable.

Apple is the company that took us backwards. Before the iPhone, cell phones had easily replaceable batteries. The non-replaceable batteries carried over to other portable electronics. That is all the fault of Apple.
Thankfully in 2027 (thank to the EU), the iPhone and other battery powered electronics will have to be easily user replaceable. I look forward to seeing what the 2027 iPhone is going to be like. I'm not sure if this carries over to earbuds and headphones. But if it does, I look forward to seeing the AirPod Pro with replaceable batteries. |

Gaming is active. The player controls the camera, not the cinematographer. Game images are not still frames; the game engine has to calculate everything to display and then draw it faster than user input. Glitches happen. Stutters happen. Screen tearing happens. Input lag happens. Last edited by ownedbycats; 03-04-2025 at 11:16 AM. |

See also: first person is more immersive. No, it's less immersive for me, because a) simulation sickness and b) my natural field of view is nearly 180 degrees and not the 70-90 degrees first person games typically present. |

The electronics industry had been moving towards non-replaceable batteries for years prior to iPhone: iPhone debuted in 2007. Compaq iPaq had non-replaceable batteries in 2000 (iPod is a year later in 2001). Palm Tungsten line had non-replaceable batteries in 2003. Sharp were moving towards non-replaceable batteries in the Zaurus line around that time as well.

Only VR game I found that I can play for more than 10 seconds is Beat Saber. Because it's not "me" moving. |

I recently had to finally replace my beloved Galaxy S10e. It had long since stopped receiving OS updates or security updates, but it still ran just fine. Unfortunately, the battery was clearly starting to swell on it, as I could see gaps developing in the casing. I ended up buying an S24, because it was mostly the same dimensions, and as much as I hate to be tied to an ecosystem, I'm pretty much all-in on Samsung at this point (I have a phone, a tablet, a watch, and earbuds--all of which play very nicely with each other and not much else). The S24 came out the logical conclusion simply because I won't have to upgrade it for another six years, if Samsung's word is to be believed.
But other than the fact that the S24 is faster, it feels like a regression in so many ways. It loses the headphone jack. It loses the SD slot. The fingerprint sensor moved from a hardware scanner that was built into the power button to an under-screen scanner that feels way less accurate. It loses the Bixby button (which, admittedly, I rarely used, but as a remapped camera button it wasn't bad). All in exchange for a slightly faster processor, and some AI crap that I don't use. There's a part of me that wonders if I should have just paid a guy at a mall kiosk to put in a new battery, and then tried to load LineageOS onto it. Oh well. |

Has anyone won a Nobel prize whilst working for any of today's tech giants — Apple, Amazon, Nvidia, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta etc.
Bell Labs & IBM employees have won 11 and 6 respectively. |
