No last minute purchases for me. No justification for buying something today that I didn't want yesterday just because it will be gone tomorrow (gone via D&T that is).

No. I decline to support their monopolistic "Kindle exclusive" contract practices.

I'm not done with them completely, as there are some books that work well on the phone app as "down time" reading. What I dislike is no foreign language to English dictionaries with the app, need Kindle for those.

I just bought my first post-download kindle book. I feel a bit guilty for letting the side down.

You're far from being the only one (even here on MR) who doesn't much care about deDRMing their books. If you're a Kindle user and like to download directly from Amazon without messing with calibre & plugins, there's no reason why you shouldn't continue buying from them. | |

Amazon is the essence of "evil empire." I quit Kindle about 10 years ago and love my Kobo Clara HD. I find the device comparable to the Kindle Paperwhite, and love that it is somewhat more hackable, i.e., customizable. Quit MS Windows long before that, and am using Linux myself. Linux + Calibre + Kobo is a great combo for me. |

I spent my annual budget just to complete some series. I just hated paying more, but I think this will have a good effect of making me focus on my TBR rather than my other hobby of buying books. Best thing was the heavy discount on Diskworld - I was able to complete that series! Last thing I bought was Frumious Bandersnatch (87th Precinct) by Ed McBain. Been on my wishlist a few years. Other than free books, there won't be more additions to my kindle library.

I will try not to use Amazon for books. The problem is that I often buy on my Oasis and it will be tedious having to download, clean, and convert before I can read, instead of when it is convenient. I don't want to buy a new E- reader if I can avoid it, though I must say the latest Libra looks good. I do like 7 inch and page buttons. Anyone here got one and could give me an opinion? Do you mean the Libra Colour? By all accounts, it seems a pretty good device, considering that the Kaleido display is in some aspects worse when displaying black and white text than a pure black and white reader. I.e. it's darker and the contrast is somewhat less. Many people are not bothered by this, they just increase the light level, but some are.

Also @piperclassique, as you're also coming from an Oasis I can give you a few more pointers from my experience. It's quite similar to the Oasis in terms of layout but it does feel a bit different; the buttons are more "clicky" and the device is overall thicker as it doesn't have the same lopsided design. The plastic body does feel less "premium", but on the other hand, this and the recessed screen makes me less worried to damage it; I'm more inclined to use it without a case and just leave it around the house, which is great because the color screen makes it almost feel like having a paperback lying around.
