Hm. Will need to try this specific stepping. Tried installing 2.40 over 1.17 at some point. It "forgets" its registration, and when I try to register I get a blank white window except for a region selector at the bottom.

That's not my experience. When I installed 2.40 over 1.17, my registration carried over.

Thank you for confirming this. Means it's something wonky on my end.

Edit:
Yup, tried again: 1.17 loads correctly. I install 2.40 on top of 1.17 and it is unregistered. I install 1.17 on top of 2.40 and my registration is back.

No good. Uninstalling 1.17 removes the local registration data. Installing 2.40 "clean" afterwards and trying to register still gets me the blank white window.

I have a mac and kindle 4th Gen. Will this work for downloading to the device then copying off and de-drming? (for reading on a Kindle Oasis)

What do you mean by "this"? You don't need the Kindle app to copy books from your Kindle. You can even copy them from the Oasis if you use deDRM 10.0.9/alpha and the KFX Input plugin. The latter is not needed for copying from the 4th gen Kindle.

What you have to watch out for is that when you borrow an eBook from a library when you could already read that eBook, you are costing the library money (the cost of a single borrow) that it should not have to spend.

Well I'm hazy on the details but previously I was using Download&Transfer to get books. (and the Kindle 4th Gen is what allowed for this)

So I guess now they're closing that loophole... is it required to convert formats using KFX Input plugin?

Does this plugin often do a decent job of the conversion or does it leave any formatting issues?

Not if you mean to read it on the Oasis.

The plugin doesn't convert anything. If you want to convert, you must do an ordinary calibre conversion.

Nope. Nothing newer than 1.17 that I've tried will register. Just the blank white window. Oh, well.

@Sirtel on that basis is it better for me to first download ebooks to my Oasis or the Kindle 4th Gen before copying to calibre?
