Have you tried opening the ePub file (ePub uses a zip container to store the files associated with the book) with a zip utility? I use 7Zip.

I have been using Calibre for a long time with my Libra H20. I never had any problems transferring books.
Since this week, I own a Libra Colour as well. I have transferred books to the device, but they do not show up on the ereader. Via windows file explorer, I can see the kepub files are there.

To test, I just transferred some books to the H2O, and same thing: kepub files are on the device, but do not show up. Even after a restart. Any suggestions what might be the problem?

Install Kobo Utilities and see it it reports a malformed db.

Both devices are ok:
Result of running 'PRAGMA integrity_check' on database on the Kobo device:
ok

The H20 I've had since 2019, and never experienced any problems with transferring books to the device or corrupt files. The Colour is brand new.

I can open the ebook with Calibre ebookviewer on the device memory (using windows file explorer).

Maybe a few obvious questions.

Is the date / time correct on your devices

What location are the books going to on your Kobo

Do you see a message regarding processing new content when you disconnect your Kobo

Do you use KOReader

Date and time are correct. The software is updated on both Kobo's and I am running the latest version of calibre and plugins.
I send the ebook files to the main memory of the device (there is no other storage card). When I eject the device it returns to the home screen. I do not use koreader, but the Kobo Touch extended plugin in calibre (which I have removed and re-installed).
I didn't have problems before. Upon sending ebooks, calibre shows them in the library on the device. When I reconnect the ereader, they are not registered on the device anymore, although Windows file explorer shows the books are there.

Books will show u on the device immediately after they've been sent because at that oint calibre just updates dislay based on whats been sent.

When the device is disconnected and reconnected the books on the device are shown based SOLELY on the contents of the database on the device. This database is maintained by the Kobo by an import process that happens when the device is unplugged.

The books ARE on the device's file system but do not show up in it's menus which means they are not present in the Kobo database.

On the Libra H20 I have deleted a book that I had previously added via calibre and read. Then, I put it back on the reader, but it is not showing in the book list now.
As you mentioned in one of the previous entries, the book is there, but not showing in the Kobo database. Files have the .kepub extension. I am at a loss what is wrong here. Also, I cannot add books to my old reader anymore [crisis to be...

] Any suggestions what might be the problem?

Sounds like classic symptoms of corrupted database.

Is that .kepub or .kepub.epub? .kepub by itself is not a file extension that your Kobo will work with. And I would not put books directly in the root directory since that has a limited number of directory entries and long file names on FAT32 chew up directory entries with enthusiasm.

I would try sending a few .epub books to a directory on your Kobos (call it eBooks for boredom) and see if they show up.
