Amazon has removed Download & Transfer option

I'm pleasantly surprised that Amazon hasn't banned my IP yet. I've downloaded my entire Amazon library minus 4 print replica books that D&T refused to send to an eInk Kindle 8 times now. Twice using Tampermonkey scripts to download in blocks of 25 (once with manual button press and the other with the button press automated) and then using several Python scripts to download the entire library in one go. I repeated the test with my latest variant of the Python code with improved filename sanitization today. While there are only 1874 books in my library, I was worried that downloading them 8 times in a relatively short time time would trigger Amazon's twitchy IP address blocking.

Sadly this effort all drops dead in a few days.

I only downloaded my 1452 books once...using a tampermonkey script that did 25 at a time. (but I did already have almost all of them...over 1400...already in Calibre)

I am considering finally installing K4PC as a test and downloading there also.

Update...well, I guess I've already figured out how to tell...maybe! (Keep in mind, I've never bothered using K4PC before.) Anyway...I had my 1462 books already in collections. So I am now downloading the collections in K4PC. I see that when downloaded it seems to put a check mark in the list. So I just have to download all 1462 and then scan through the list to see which 3 don't have marks! I guess? I hope?

huh. Thought I was good, but...help?

I did my downloads using a script directly from the Amazon site. This was just for backing up. I had most of my books already in Calibre since I've been doing it for many years. (I have Amazon ebooks from 2008.)

Anyway...I just installed K4PC 2.4.0 (70904) to also experiment with. Installed. Updates off. Changed my file location.

So now I'm looking at my library and K4PC says my total is 1484. OK. Except on the website in my content library, I'm only at 1481.

any tips for figuring out where the 3 book discrepancy is?

19 of my "books" are actually KU and/or prime reading. So my numbers are actually 1462 and 1465.

Now, the 1462 does match with my own number in Calibre for my Amazon purchases (includes freebies!).

But I have no idea about these extra 3 books that K4PC says I have!

Mostly testing. I made the mistake of pointing a few people in the direction of those scripts and suddenly I was their scripting guru. I found issues with the lack of filename sanitization (who knew that having :, |, ", /, \, etc. in a filename could cause issues in downloading the file?) Another issue where Amazon popped up a captcha which required showing the browser and giving a delay to allow entering the captcha and a few other bits of fun.

Are they maybe dictionaries? I know those show on my Kindle device but not in my content library, not sure about K4PC.

They were full books since I was pointing at Purchases. Parts of titles like "B" is for Butcher, Rich Man | Poor Man, and the endless selection of title: series/half the blurb/whatever. One lovely example where the title ended in ... (not an ellipsis, 3 periods).

OK, finished downloading in K4PC and I do have an answer...

the 3 books shown in K4PC that I did not have accounted for are:

2 user's guides...a "Kindle User's Guide" and a "Kindle User's Guide 3rd Edition"

and the other is a book that I did purchase at one time, back in 2009. But a few years back when I was reconciling my purchases against what I had in Calibre, this book was no longer available in My Content Library. I made notes for myself in Calibre and I had it in my order history, but it just was not showing in My Content Library.

This was in 2022 that it was not showing. I did an organization thing where I went through my content library and put everything into collections by the year of purchase and did the same in Calibre (well, I added tags). That is how I figured out I had this book in Calibre but not in my content page on Amazon.

But...K4PC just downloaded it.

And now I just rechecked and it IS back in my content library now. So sometime between 2009 and 2022, it disappeared. And sometime between 2022 and 2025, it is back.

edit: also, if you click the title for the book to go to the product page, it doesn't exist...just one of the sorry pages with dogs of amazon.

Mystery solved at least...

I learned about this change a few days ago and confirmed that it is the same for Amazon Canada. I found a great video that gives really instructions on how to bulk download your books. I have 5500 books in my library. I started yesterday morning and completed the download today.

I already downloaded all my regular books throughout the years, but I also have a bunch of comics (around 200) which I never bothered to save, and am thinking of doing so before the deadline.

I think I remember reading here that the quality of images in files obtained via “Download and Transfer” vary depending on the target device (when one has more than one Kindle). This brings a couple of questions:

• Instinctively I’d guess targeting the Scribe would give the highest quality images, is that indeed the case?
• Would the images in such books downloaded for the Scribe be in color?
• Amongst the scripts shared in this thread, is there one which allows selecting the target device?
• Would the image quality be better if I got the files through Kindle for PC?
