Somebody here HAS printed it and put it on his door. A pic of the kid & adult from that movie, with the balloon of text over the kid's head .... and the word DUMB substituted instead of dead people. Make ya grin when you pass that office.

I would so like to have the same poster on my door, except amended to "I work for dumb people."

Unfortunately, I don't think that it would actually help in the current situation at work. But if/when we all get the redundancy notices, it will appear, superglued, so that it can't be peeled off.

i hope that that will prove cathartic for you, patricia. i take it the negotiations are not going as you would like. i'm sorry. this must be very stressful for you.

'Stressful' is currently an understatement. We academics are entitled either to 12 months' notice or pay in lieu of notice. But many of our admin
colleagues could get redundancy notices on 19 July. There are some people who have devoted their working lives to the university. And there are students who are in the middle of diplomas or certificates. Up to 160 jobs could be lost. Thousands of students will be affected.

If senior management had called us together a year ago, when the problem was first apparent, then we could all have worked together as a team to sort things out. Instead, they repeatedly told us that there was no problem.

I fully expect to lose my job now, if the cuts go through. But it will take some time and/or money for management to get rid of me. In the meantime, I am covered by the university statutes on academic freedom, so am one of the few people able to speak freely about the situation.
(The university statutes on academic freedom seem to give me the right to say what I like, provided that I don't prevent other people from saying what they like. In practice this means that I mustn't block an entrance or exit from a university building - say with a large demonstration; or invite a fascist onto the premises to speak. I don't actually have the inclination to do either of these options. But I have addressed a demonstration for the first time in my life.)

that sounds like a horribly painful situation for you to be in. i still can't believe how badly and stupidly the university is handling this problem. i am very glad you are fighting it and taking whatever actions you can. i really hope you can manage to find an acceptable solution.

The study thesis is accepted (so not completed ATM), but the diploma thesis (which would build on the study thesis) is not

Publishing papers sounds like a good idea. You can hardly go wrong with that.
