Can't convert files downloaded from Amazon website
I have downloaded my books from the Amazon website using the "Download and transfer via usb" option. When I read these books into Calibre and then try to convert them I get the DRM error. I have the DeDRM and FKX Input plugins installed.

Any ideas?

Did you enter the serial number of your Kindle in the deDRM plugin settings?

Edit: I see you have a Fire. A Fire cannot be used for deDRM purposes; it must be an eink Kindle.

You can still use the Kindle for PC app, version 2.40. That's the only way to deDRM your Kindle books if you don't have an eink Kindle.

I have the Kindle for PC app on my computer and I downloaded all my books. When I go to My Kindle Content, it downloads a mixture of AZW3 and KFX formats. I con convert the AZW3 books but not the KFX books.

Did you install the KFX Input plugin to Calibre?

Did you confirm that you turned off auto update in the K4PC software so that the software did not update. You must be on no later than 2.4.0 (70904).

Did you, in Calibre, go to the customization for the dedrm (like you would for your serial number) and click on the "Kindle for Mac/PC books" and click on the plus sign to add a key.

This is actually not necessary with the PC app. The key is obtained automatically.

I believe it was needed once, many years ago. Not since I've been using the plugin, anyway (late 2011).

Cool. For the sake of testing, I'm currently in the middle of adding 1463 books from K4PC to a test library. So we'll see what I end up with. I had gone into the customization and done the plus sign thing, so I removed the one it added but left the "default key"? Don't know if I should have removed that or not? And if I did would it regenerate it if needed?

I guess I should add this elsewhere. Didn't mean to hijack the thread.

I have installed the DeDFM and KFX Input plugins, I am using version 2.4.0 (70904), the auto update is disabled, and the Kindle for MAC/PC books has a key in it.

I go to the Kindle Content directory and add a book, but it comes in as format KFX-ZIP and when I try to convert it I get the DRM error.

I am using Calibre version 7.26.0.

Make sure the books have been fully downloaded in the app, before importing them to calibre.

And which version is your deDRM plugin?

The latter is your problem. You need 10.0.9 or the alpha:
