I don't know what happened, but since the last update my reader record was deleted when I updated. Thanks to a backup I have the previous file Reading_Goal_Data_6c36559c-5554-4a32-8f12-e05f6be21575.json
I wonder if I overwrite it will it work?
Or should I reload the challenges from the oldest to the newest?

No. It counts as read in the day you registered it.

When you say deleted, was your JSON file missing or just blank? Dit it happen immediately after you updated?
And just out of curiosity: do you use the new backup plugin? Do you keep your database file opened in some program like 'Notepad++' during the backup?

I don't know if I fully understand your question. To restore the backup, just use the 'Database > Restore' option in the 'Edit Reading Goal' dialog (or 'Restore backup' in the Config dialog). You don't have to edit the challenges manually, except anything done after the backup was made.

I have returned to version 1.8.5 and when I touch the icon I get a warning that the date of the year is invalid.
In the configuration folder there are two json files.

It didn't seem to reflect the yearly records I had previously uploaded.

And just out of curiosity, are you using the new backup plugin?

What happens if I have a book in my reading goal that I did not finish but have read some of it and the date is from 2025 but it's now 2026?

If this is enabled, it will copy to next year's goal (leaving it unfinished in 2025). I'm not sure what happens if it isn't.

For example, there is one book from 2024 that I didn't finish (I was hospitalized on the morning of 29th). It copied to 2025 and I finished it there.

I think you might need to update the dates on the 2025 books, otherwise it'll tell you wrong year. It doesn't make a new record unless the percentage changes.

I just tried a book that's marked from 2024 and it did not let me add it to 2025.

There should be an option to allow a book from the previous year to be added to the current year. It's a book I opened and moved forward until I go to where to start reading. I'd like not to have to read at least one page or edit the reading info.

I'm not sure if theres any method for what you do. JSON editing might work though. If you want to try, make a backup as the files are fragile and blank with misplaced commas and like.

The invalid year error happens when you have a book added to your current year's goal, and the date in your calibre column doesn't match (e.g.: the year is 2024). Just change the date column to 2025.

That's expected. One is your configuration file and the other is the database.

I don't think that's possible. When an error occur in the JSON, it will blank itself. It will never delete just some entries.

I opened the one you send me and it has books from 2016 up to 2025. I don't see anything wrong with it. Of course I wouldn't know if some entry was missing, but like I said: errors in the JSON will blank them completely.

Like @ownedbycats explained, you can have it migrated automatically to your 2026's goal. The pages read in 2025 will count for that year's goal, and the pages read in 2026 will count for your current goal.
If you uncheck the option mentioned, then the book will remain unfinished in your 2025's.

The plugin's database is organized by years. It would break things if you could add a book with a 2024 date to your 2025's goal. When you add books from 2024 to your 2025's goal, the plugin will filter those books for you, so you can easily change the date to 2025. You don't need to create a new record. Just change the date column. A new record won't be created until the percentage changes.

Well, I have decided to remove the conflicting book from my reading goal.
Let me explain a little why I couldn't edit the end date column. This is automatically completed from the synchronization with goodreads.
