You have to open the acsm file in Adobe Digital Editions, then you will get either an encrypted epub or an encrypted pdf.

It is easy enough to do, but I do not know why it is necessary or cannot be fixed. Maybe it is not an issue if not using HomeBrew but that is a necessity for me. I don't think it is an issue on Windows - I do have calibre instance set up there for processing some Amazon books, so I will try installing the plugin there to avoid the need for the unlink/link workaround, especially since I may be purchasing more ACSM protected books going forward. I wonder about the timing of this, after all these years. They've made a sale, what do they care what happens after that? Perhaps their lawyers wanted to reduce their exposure to lawsuits that claim their indifference to the fact that DRM is so easily removed makes them liable for lost sales because piracy etc. Amazon is a big fat target and that could hurt them, and then they'd still have to do DRM hardening if they lose the lawsuit, even if it has no merit. Even winning such a suit would be losing in some sense. If that's the case (whatever the reasons are), then we can anticipate hardening update sooner or later at least for Kindles still getting them. And PC 2.4.0 will get unplugged. After that (or even now) somebody should still sue them to restore D&T for what are supposed to be DRM free books (if polite and reasonable requests to do so do not work). And actually that is something we could all do with feedback. Last edited by tomsem; 02-15-2025 at 05:40 PM. |

I'm glad this got tweaked for the UK! I should probably have thought that it might be different in the various national flavors of Amazon, but that would be silly, right? Why program the website so as to be obtuse and- oh. Right. 'S why we're here.

I'm not sure if this falls under this topic or not. I have 1344 documents from the last 15 years or so. Most of the earlier books I read on Kindle came from places like fiction-wise.net. Over the years and multiple new computers and transfers, I'm pretty sure I've lost a few of the original documents. Or idiotically had them emailed straight to my Kindle account at the time. Is there anyway, I can retrieve them from Amazon?

1452 books downloaded
1.01gb 92 in TPZ (which I had almost forgotten about!) 683 AZW 677 AZW3 My collection goes back to 2008. In earlier years (2009-2012) in particular I wasn't very discriminating and downloaded a lot of freebies even if I wasn't particularly interested. |

For what it may be worth, I played with both scripts posted in this thread. The one from jedi425 from https://github.com/Jedi425/BulkKindl...er/tree/master worked quite well. Oddly, several books that downloaded with a ^% in the file name had a truncated file extension (blank, .a or .az). A bulk rename to .azw seemed to have fixed most of those issues. The Tampermonkey script (see message #78 in this thread) worked but did require me to click on the next page and then the Download button in blocks of 25 books. Both of them failed on a couple of books, one of which was the one that Amazon said could not be downloaded for a PW4 but that the PW4 was happy to download when I was testing the TamperMonkey script.
Sadly after all the fun, I only found 1 book that was not already in my calibre library. A quick perusal of the book showed why I had removed it. An AI could have done a better job and with fewer spelling and grammar errors. Last edited by DNSB; 02-16-2025 at 02:12 AM. |
