I resisted price-matching for years as it didn't seem worth the bother and I was store-agnostic. But I stopped buying Kindle books in 2023 when they nerfed their bonus program and it's a trivial process. And given that the books are cheaper as a result....

I understand that some people direct download (I do). I also know that there are books only sold at Amazon. But the saving-money aspect now that books will be tied to a Kindle device or app is a nice come-on to jump ship.

What you should do it go through your Kindle library on Amazon and update any that have updates available and download those.

Amazon has announced a hardware related event at 10AM ET on February 26, the same day as the Download and Transfer cutoff. Panos Panay, their new head of hardware development who came to Amazon from Microsoft, is supposed to be there to show off new products. Speculation is that they relate to Alexa.

However his department is also responsible for Kindles. There may also be news on that front, and I don't mean good news.

All that word means is the K1, K2, DX, & DXG are no longer supported and won't be able to get eBooks.

They might just simply end eink kindles, Mac app & Windows app. Only have iOS and Android apps. The Fire is basically Android, so a version of the Android app. Exactly the sort of thing beancounters and an ex Microsoft person would like.

There is nothing compelling new that can do with eink, and for Amazon, control is important. The Alexa division is under pressure to save money.

They sent invitations to the event to various news agencies. As far as I know there has not been a live stream announced.
