Well, I decided to give Temeraire another try. It was almost 20 years ago when I read the first book and I remember it wasn't bad (dragons!), I just felt bored by all the battle scenes and war stuff. I wasn't motivated enough to buy the rest of the series on paper, but maybe I would with ebooks.

Scholomance also moved from calibre to my Kobos.

Actually, it's a series I don't want to pick up.

I finished on of her Gamache books in January. It was enjoyable as always.

I’ve finally internalized the notion that I’ll never be able to read everything I’d like, but I’ll get to some of them (if they get cheap enough) and it’s fun to think about.

^^^^^^^^^ This, but then also as an added bonus, through being forced to explore other avenues you happily stumble upon stores you'd never heard of offering books from authors you'd never heard of/ never appear on Amazon.

This last week of reading/ buying books has felt really fresh to me. And a bonus, bonus is that using several different stores now has made it more enjoyable as well as they all have their own styles and layouts, some of the excitement of book buying is coming back for me

I hadn't realised how stale my book buying/ reading had become using Amazon, not really Amazons fault just a by product of buying my ebooks from one place only.

This entire passage, from Price of the Phoenix. Just what did I read? I feel vaguely dirty.

He took Kirk's face in his hands, not asking this time a permission which had always been granted.

His fingers found the stylized position of the mind-touch and he cleared his own mind of the vision of the flames. He could do it now. He swept mind and body clean of the horror that must not be in the touch.

And he saw the same kind of clearing in Kirk's face, the steadying down to quiet control, the fine courage of the willingness to open.

"How touching," Omne drawled.

Spock felt murder knot in his shoulders again. He did not let it reach his hands.

And then Kirk's hands reached to ease the shoulders and to draw him surprisingly close. "We are alone, Mr. Spock," he said. "Quite alone. Do you understand?"

"Indeed, Captain. Quite alone." And he made it true.

The mind-touch was a lowering of personal barriers. If it did not require privacy, it nonetheless cried for it.

Spock slipped in easily at the level of warmth. He had been here before. It knew how to accept him.

Spock fought to keep the touch narrow, to move quickly up to the cooler level of consciousness. "Jim?"

"My God, yes! It is yes?" Spock heard the soft mind-laughter. "Hell, yes! Spock?"

"Yes. Indeed, yes!"

Laughter again, rippling like quicksilver. "Where is my logical Vulcan?"

"Here."

The early Bantam Star Trek novels were definitely... something.
