Also, look into the scripts for automatically downloading. I've had one running in the background here, snagging everything for me. Makes it so much quicker.

I have that download-all-kindle-books.js script but can't get it to run. I think it needs a browser plugin that I don't have, or else does not work in Chrome.

I use a PW3. That's the newest I have. My daughter has a PW4. Are these devices considered outdated? I've casually looked at the upgrades listed for newer eReaders, but to me nothing seems worth paying even a few dollars to upgrade to. I've never considered my PW3 as old and inferior. It does what I need and I can't think of anything I'd ask it to do differently. When it dies I'll replace it with something. That won't be an Amazon-something though, not after what they just did to D&T. I hope Kobo's will hang in there and not go the way of Amazon before I need to replace my PW3. |

I did make a couple of changes to the script. I changed the site to amazon.ca and also to the Purchased items page and dropped the wait time to 5000 ms from 14000. Code: // @match https://www.amazon.ca/hz/mycd/digital-console/contentlist/booksPurchases/*
// Wait a little before processing the next dropdown
await new Promise(resolve => setTimeout(resolve, 5000));Last edited by DNSB; 02-14-2025 at 12:25 AM. Reason: Edit: Added changes I made to the script

What is the oldest Kindle that still might receive such an update? By the same token, would that be the same as the newest Kindle that can't use KFX? If I'm not mistaken, the device in the latter category is the PW1.

I think the oldest Kindle still receiving updates is the PW4. What is the oldest Kindle that, in theory, could receive such an update... only Amazon knows.

I was thinking of attempting to replace the battery (do you really need the hair dryer per the how-to video???), but I don't want to go to all that trouble and expense if Amazon is going to pull support for it in near future.

Kindle Paperwhite (10th Generation) 5.17.1.0.3 is probably the PW4. Newest not got an update (so this and older likely safe for removing DRM) Kindle Oasis (9th Generation) 5.16.2.1.1, the Oasis 2. 7" (Oasis 1 is 6") KFX from a PW 3 deDRMs fine. Kindle Paperwhite (7th Generation) 5.16.2.1.1 The PW1 and likely any lower FW didn't get the KFX backport Kindle Paperwhite (5th Generation) 5.6.1.1 See https://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custo...MQC26VQQMM8XSW The K3 and some other old Kindles didn't originally have azw3/KF8, so need updated if older than on the FW page. For all the DRM removal I've done of books I've purchased, I never really go back and load books from calibre that much. So maybe it's time to just delete calibre and those books and forget about it.

You can also buy books from other places like Google Play books with Kobo, you're not stuck with just their store like Amazon.

As I have posted in some other threads we come back to whether or not Amazon will get round to rendering all Kindles prior to K7 obsolete. That is, unable to download books at all because they don't support kfx and will not be updated. There are millions of devices out there that this would affect and customer pushback would not be trivial. However unless they do that there will be a route to removing DRM that remains unplugged and Amazon will have to endure what ever flack they get from Publishers.
