Tirsales, does your work have any commercial value? If the university won't accept it as a thesis, you ought to be able to get something out of it!

I commend you for your efforts to stay calm. I think this is the best approach. But I hope you can find some other tutor willing to work with your existing thesis.

I'm not familiar with other educational institutions but wonder whether there is a director of studies, or dean of students, to whom you might appeal for help?

Either talk a tutor into accepting my original thesis (which might proof impossible) or get a new thesis - either way it will take time and spoil my chances to finish my study "on time".

That's problematic - the source code belongs to some portion to the institution I wrote my study thesis for - it hasnt been a hobby project, in theory I just spend many additional time and effort for a normal study thesis
Thus its not really my work to sell
But I will try to publish some papers on this topics (at least) - so it will not be completely wasted.

I could appeal to the dean of students - but I dont think he could be of any help.
My original tutor is unwilling to do anything to help - so he's out. And then the problem is to find a new tutor - and they cannot be forced into accepting a thesis, so the dean could not do much to help me (he would have been able to accept the external tutor in the first case - but that train is gone (and I dont think my original tutor even has appealed to the dean..)).
If I find a tutor who is willing to accept this thesis, and the administration then rejects it (theoretically possible) - then I could appeal to the dean. But the second part is highly unlikely (I have never heard of a diploma thesis being rejected by the administration (before 2009 I've never heard of an external tutorship being rejected... and now I know of 5 this year).

I think that part could be key for you, particularly if a faculty member somewhere recognizes your significant efforts which may end up as entirely extracurricular. They could be viewed quite positively.

One thing that a good Dean of students may be able to do for you is to point you in the direction of a tutor who is likely to find your intended thesis-work interesting. This would not be an instance of asking the Dean to over-rule a tutor, but rather asking the Dean to help match you up with a tutor who is sympathetic to your goals. Having that talk with the Dean (or department chair, or senior professor who knows everybody, or...) is probably worth a try.

In the School of Computer Science here at CMU we certainly try hard to take care of students who've been um.... is screwed too strong a word?... by the departure of an advisor. It may be the case that there's no available match. But I would expect that there's someone around your academic institution who would at least attempt to help you find a match if a match is possible at all.

I suggest that you think a bit about which person (administrative or faculty) is most likely to be able to connect you with a tutor who would be willing to work with you on your intended project.

Hmm, this is an interesting proposition - just let me get an appointment

It would be nice if the university here would do the same ..

The only problem I see is that I already talked to everybody who (in my eyes) could have an interest (e.g. because (s)he is working in a similar field). But it might well be that I missed s/o - thanks for the proposition

One of the problems is that time is running out - even if I find s/o to tutor my thesis, I'll still have problems completing my thesis on time .. (Yesterday was not the first attempt to find s/o (or even the first attempt to speak with this lecturer)). Oh well - in the long run it will somehow work out, and in the worst case I am loosing one year

How can the institution own it if they won't let you complete it? Or is the study thesis being accepted, but not the diploma thesis?

Publishing papers sounds like a good idea. You can hardly go wrong with that.
