I hope jgoguen is OK. He hasn't posted here since December 10, and hasn't commented on this bug on GitHub. It would be nice if we could get at least a 'new' version of the extension that reverts the code to 3.7.0, what with all the newbies setting up their new Christmas Kobos.

My apologies everyone, and thanks for your concern! I usually try to unplug a bit over Christmas, sometimes with varying levels of success, even if that means just tweaking configs that have annoyed me but not enough to be important. Between that and an overzealous spam filter I've missed a bunch of emails. I've put version 3.7.3 up on MR, you won't find it on GitHub, but it's just a revert to the 3.7.0 code. Calibre should offer it within the next hour. I'm actually in the middle of reworking the entire conversion process, but with real life to handle that could take some time.

Ive installed all the plug ins. Am I right in that I now just need to drag and drop epubs in calibre and then transfer to the Kobo? I dont need to do anything else? Do I need to convert epubs to kepub manually before i send to device?

The ePub will be converted to KePub on the fly when you send the ePub to your Kobo.

Not sure if this belongs here or in the Kobo Utilities plugin, but I'd like to request a feature.

I am a heavy Overdrive user with my kobo. When I sync my kobo to Calibre, occasionally there is a book I got from Overdrive for which I didn't precreate a placeholder entry in my calibre library.

In this case, I'd like to create a placeholder entry and populate it with the metadata from the book.
When I use smart eject, it shows the book on the device but not in the library; If I then try to import the book, calibre tells me it can't import a virtual book.

However, I can save the book to disk, and then rename it to epub and add it to my library, which picks up the metadata, and then I can delete the encrypted epub from calibre.

Would it be possible to change this plugin to save me some steps and just directly create the placeholder book in the library when I ask to import it? (Or add an entry "add empty book for this virtual book", similar to what is already under Add book...)

I’m not sure either plugin is appropriate for what you’re trying to do. This is a device plugin for sending books to a device, Kobo Utilities is a collection of things to do on the Kobo device. If anything Kobo Utilities would be more appropriate, but I’m not sure it’s the right place for what is a library management function.

Is the kobo driver not involved in importing books from the device?

The driver only provides the path to the file on the device. Calibre attempts to copy that file then import it. For this to work in your case the driver must make a copy of the book (how, if the book is virtual?), rename it, then give that path to calibre to import. DeDRM might get involved. You would still be required to delete the epub from the library. I don't know how fragile the process would be.

Already verified I don't need DeDRM to import the metadata.

I guess what I'm bothered by is that I can save the book to disk and then import it but I can't import it in one step.

Also, importing might not even be necessary because the metadata is already in the device view. I just want to make an empty book from that metadata.
