Factory reset kindle Select Language and Region Plug Kindle into PC and copy Winterbreak files Eject then unplug Kindle Register kindle, No thanks to "Kid Friendly", No thanks to "Kindle Unlimited" Turn on airplane mode and plug kindle into computer Delete folder .active_context_sandbox Eject & unplug Kindle Reboot kindle Turn off airplane mode Download book from library & Download free book from Amazon Prime Reading. Go to the kindle store with the Wifi connected and browse around for 10 minutes Exit the store & let Kindle sleep for 10-15 minutes. (Kindle restarted on it's own after being asleep for a few minutes.) Plug kindle into computer to check if it is done generating the folder with its files, check the folder .active_content_sandbox > store > resource > cachedresources. (At this point there was still no file called "secondary store" or "index" but "localstorage" was there.) Eject then unplug kindle Turn on airplane mode Plug kindle into computer Copy the "index" file from Winterbreak AND delete localstorage directory Eject then unplug kindle & reboot Open Kindle Store, turn off Airplane mode. At this point it still did not show up, but then I said screw it and decided to check one last time. I just plugged the kindle into my computer and went to delete the localstorage and I saw that it wasn't there but the "secondarystore" file WAS there. I just copied the "index" file over again, disconnected, rebooted and went to the store and the Mesquito icon was finally there... |

You may also want to try deleting the contents of the .active_content_sandbox. One person referred to me by a friend has somehow managed to make the directory contents read only. We copied the contents to their computer and then deleted the entire directory. After that, the jailbreak went through without issue.

Stuck with KUAL on Colorsoft
Quote:
Hi BionicGecko Were you able to install KOreader on Colorsoft? I got hotfix installed and tried the latest "Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin " but it did not work. The "Hush little baby..." appeared on the screen but after that, the screen went blank. Is there a tweak to this? My firmware is 5.18.0 |

I successfully did this using PW 10th gen. Installed Koreader (koreader-kindlepw2-v2024.11.zip) and tried to run it in KUAL. It did not work. Not only it did not work, but when I started KOreader (no framework), my kindle pw is no longer recognizable by PC. It charges, but cannot access internal files from PC. (Windows 10).
Help! |

You could try holding down the power button until your PW shuts down and then restarting it. |

Did you use the MRPI version from https://fw.notmarek.com/khf/ Did you use the KUAL (coplate) version from the first message in the Snapshots of NiLuJe's hacks thread? And once you finish the JB, make sure to use the kindlehf versions of KOReader. The soft float versions will not work and, from one poster, locked up their Kindle. |

I followed the instructions and all the files from this link https://kindlemodding.org/jailbreaking/post-jailbreak/ Are they not the right files for Colorsoft? ----- So I've tried again with the MRPI from your link. The KUALbooklet from your link is "Update_KUALBooklet_18b218e_install.bin" which does not start with "Hush little baby...". The ones pops up with the message Hush little baby are "Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin " and "Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_install.bin" but none of them installed (I even rebooted after every install by ";log mrpi") |

I seem to remember there was an issue with the Colorsoft installs earlier in this thread where the KUAL install did not work with a device not supported message in the log file however that was fixed around message#25 in this thread.
Looking at NiLuJe's thread, the KUAL (coplate) version shows the filename as KUAL-18b218e-20250103.tar.xz from which you would extract the .bin files. The one from the Modding page shows the version you would need as Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin. The coplate version from NiLuJe's page has a_hotfix_ file in the archive named (Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_f190a38_install.bin) which is mentioned in the instructions. I helped one acquaintance jailbreak his Oasis earlier this month and we went through the steps on the modding page. For some reason, log ;mrpi did not seem to want to install KUAL so we ended up copying the hotfix.bin file to the root of his Oasis and then using Update Your Kindle to install it after which we used log ;mrpi to install Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin in the hopes of getting any updates. I'm not sure if Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin would allow you to install it using the Update Your Kindle tool but it might be worth trying. |

I installed Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_KS2_install.bin on a first generation Scribe running 5.16.2. When I quit KUAL I end up on the home page instead of the library list view page where I started.
The highest firmware version I'm running on other kindles is 5.12.x where KUAL always exits to the same view the kindle was in before KUAL. Has KUAL changed or is this a misfeature of 5.16.x? Is there any way to get KUAL under 5.16.2 to exit to the library page? (I hate the home page. I don't particularly like the library list view because of the thumbnails, but I don't suppose there is any way to get a true list view.) |

Hi, thanks for this!
I believe I have a PW3 (serial G090 G105 ...) with firmware 5.9.7. I downloaded the Kual (Coplate) file and everything worked as expected until I got to the Running MRPI step - when I search for ;log mrpi and hit the enter button, the search box just goes away and nothing else happens - no error and no installation. I tried the troubleshooting steps of copying the file to the root and redoing the update, but it didn't seem to change anything. Any suggestions? Also, I don't have a fullscreen search as shown in the screenshot, just a box on top of the regular screen. I assume that's because I'm on an older FW version, but maybe there's some other search screen I should be finding? |

KUAL: 'Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_18b218e_install.bin' in root folder -> Kindle Settings -> Update 4. Mrpackages 5. Rename OTA 6.
