hey guys I installed this no problem on my kindle. I have just a couple questions!
should the KFT option in settings be enabled? the tutorial didn't say or explain what it is! can I delete the ''books'' called Run Hotfix and KPPMainApp from my main screen? or will they ever be needed again? thanks in advance! |

The PW5/PW 11th Gen/PW 2022 has been reported as being jailbroken by several people in this thread alone. A quick search on PW5 will get you quite a few hits.

Have the links to the jailbreak instructions been updated to download the latest versions of all the various bits?

Jon, did you bother to check that before posting?
Hmmm... the WinterBreak tar.gz file contents are dated 2025-Jan-03. The hot fix 1.13 is from 2025-Jan-12. On Marek's site you can find a updater to 1.16 for Kindle hard float firmware (5.16.3 or higher) though that version is dated 2024-Jun-18 so would not recommend using it. The version of MRPI linked to has not been updated since the release of WinterBreak. The version of KUAL (standard or coplate) are dated from 2025-Jan-03. Are you planning on jailbreaking your PW3? If so remember to use the soft float or universal packages. |

I'm working on jail breaking my PW4. This is my first time doing this so I've been trying to read up on the process, etc. I read that the jail breaking process can take a while but am curious how long it typically takes.
I moved the WinterBreak files over to my kindle and am restarting but it's been on the "Your Kindle is restarting" screen for quite a while now. I am happy to let it be and do its thing, but wonder when I should give up and try to power off or something. |

https://github.com/KindleModding/WinterBreak/releases/latest/download/WinterBreak.tar.gz https://github.com/KindleModding/Hotfix/releases/latest/download/Update_hotfix_universal.bin You will notice that the links have /releases/latest/download as part of path. If you compare the files downloaded from those links to the files downloaded from going to the GitHub page and then clicking the latest button in the releases and then downloading the file, they are identical. Not having the version number in the filename probably makes some of the scripting easier but that's just MNSHO. Last edited by DNSB; 01-25-2025 at 05:17 PM. |

Kindle Paperwhite (11th Generation)
G001PX11 Firmware: 5.17.1.0.3 Windows 11 PC Followed all the instructions multiple times including the troubleshooting. Reset to factory default a few times during the process. Every time, when I open the store I get the "Updating your Kindle Store experience. This should take less than a minute." message and then it goes right to the traditional Kindle Store. I am not seeing a "Mesquito" or Winterbreak icon anywhere. I've retried multiple times and I'm just not seeing it. I've read every message in this thread. I tried going through the store a few times and deleting the LocalStorage folder when it shows up. I've tried logging into the Kindle using the phone app and logging directly in on the device. I've tried rebooting from the store menu, and rebooting from the library. Am I just being stupid and missing something? Any thoughts or suggestions? My Kindle root directory looks like this: .active_content_sandbox .github .hidden apps audible documents fonts mesquito screenshots system System Volume Information .gitignore jb.sh patchedUks.sqsh README.md I've tried deleting everything that's not in the directory structure shown in step 3 of 7 so that it's identical to that file tree. |

Yep, 100% sure. I mean it's not there after a factory reset, and it is after I copy everything over. Just tried on a Mac as well to make sure it's not some weird Windows config thing and same issue.
