Factory reset without Restore OTA binaries

I factory reseted my Kindle without Restore OTA binaries (because I messed it up trying to jailbreak it and I wanted to try it again from scratch, though I forgot to restore them), and now I cant apply the hotfix, is there a way to solve it?

Jailbreak works great, but I'm getting an issue installing KUAL.

It says Package 'Update_KUALBooklet_v2.7.35_install.bin' (KUALBooklet v2.7.35 I) is not targeting your device 875

(On Kindle Scribe 2022)

Spoiler:

Make sure you use the KUAL packages with random letters and numbers in the version. The one that has the version number (2.3.75) does not work for newer devices.

Now to work out what I can actually do with a jailbroken kindle.

Hi Do you have all the files you used to jailbreak and install KOreader?

I'm stuck at installing HOTFIX, it does not show up at all.

Newer firwmare IS NOT snappier. There were a lot of bugged updates this year that made Kindle's slower and buggier specially 5.17.x ones. Even final EOL updates on some devices make the Kindle sluggish probably in an attempt to get you to buy newer models.

If you're happy with 5.16.2.1.1 then I wouldn't recommend going Winterbreak at least for now as it is exceedingly new (especially the hotfix).

Hey there. Thanks for the useful resources and tools here, it's much appreciated. Unfortunately I'm registering here and posting this to report a problem. I've tried to follow the instructions very closely and take my time -- notably, the WinterBreak hotfix is installed already.
My details: I'm using a KOA3 on the latest firmware -- unfortunately I'm stuck and I can't "Open KUAL" as the guide states (meaning I got so far as the "Disabling OTA Updates" page on the [IKindleModding.org site[/I]). I've tried to review the thread's posts so far but I think I'm not seeing any Oasis users here yet or anything specifically referencing this error beyond a few similar statements.

Universal hotfix installed and Run Hotfix book is run and there's KFT option in settings(dunno what it does), and since search bar is reacting to ;log mrpi it seems I did set up a JB, but package manager don't want to be installed.
Device - PW6, 5.17.1.0.2
I'm the second one here to quote this toggleable KFT option post now specifically and I couldn't find any reference of that for Kindle jailbreaking in my searches -- only here so far. I don't know what this does either.

The only thing I think I would've done wrong is realize once I installed "Update_KUALBooklet_*_install.bin" (KUAL and MRPI together) and the lack of an KUAL boot option leaving me unable to proceed with the guide (is it another bootable book like the WinterBreak hotfix?), I tried to install "Update_KUALBooklet_hotfix_v2.7.35_install.bin " via the ;log mrpi option as the next step, which installed (I believe) and showed the lockscreen again. It didn't do anything to fix the lack of a KUAL setting available, so I learned this must might only have to be installed via being in the root of the storage and via the Update Your Kindle option, as mentioned under Troubleshooting in the guide. I got a pop-up notif that it was an Invalid Package or something along those lines, similarly to what I believe was mentioned earlier in this thread. I cannot use the uninstall variant of the KUALBooklet file via the mrpi screen either, as it gives me an error.
I hope this isn't a user error or it's just a bug since everything is so new.

successfully installed winterbreak 1.3.0 with 1.8.0 hotfix on my kindle scribe. Before installation updated to the last firmware 5.17.2 manually, make factory reset, choose English United Kingdom, register scribe to my account. Then run WinterBreak and installed hotfix 1.8.0 by Update you kindle. Then installed "Update_KUALBooklet_ALLDEVICES_install" by Update you kindle. Thanks HackerDude for jailbreak!

I was able to jailbreak my 2022 Kindle Scribe with firmware 5.17.2. I also installed usbnetlite from https://github.com/notmarek/kindle-u...ases/tag/1.0.M, I used "Update_usbnetlite_1.0.M_install_khf_11thgenon ly". It works on Kindle Scribe but when connecting Kindle Scribe to my Windows 11 PC, it was showing up as "USB Serial Device (COM3)" in Device Manager. I had to manually install the driver following https://wiki.mod.audio/wiki/Troubles...ows_Connection guide. Now it shows up properly as "USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget". I also had to manually setup Windows 11 PC IP Address in "Control Panel\Network and Internet\Network Connections" for the network "USB Ethernet/RNDIS Gadget" (I used 192.168.15.144). With all that, following the guide in https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=348374 I was able to SSH into Kindle Scribe:

Code:
login as: root
root@192.168.15.244's password:
#################################################
# N O T I C E * N O T I C E * N O T I C E #
#################################################
Rootfs is mounted read-only. Invoke mntroot rw to
switch back to a writable rootfs.

Reporting two bricked devices from this thread: https://www.mobileread.com/forums/sh....php?p=4478014

A PW4 and a PW5 Signature Edition, running previous version of the hotfix that litterally destroyed correct storage mounting point at normal boot time and also when attempting a reset boot. This seemed to be the problematic code:
https://github.com/KindleModding/Hot...bd7b1752a8a420

If anyone has a lead on potential fixes there, including hardware mods and EMMC low level access, please do let us know on this thread or the other.

For Kindle Basic 6“ 2022 with newest firmware and Scribe 2022 with firmware 5.17.2 success report.

Thanks a lot for the work getting this jailbreak working and thanks for all the developers and testers of the whole stack of projects that make this all work!

Wait until those in the other thread come here to properly post. I just told them to come here.

So pretty

I really wish a jailbreak could help fix that infamous yellow border though!

Does KOReader start? Nobody has reported yet on Colorsoft.

If not, you may need to replace device.lua with
https://github.com/koreader/koreader...dle/device.lua

Yes, it starts fine with the aforementioned device.lua, and a custom start script from Marek (attached, but couldn't directly attach a ".sh" file so I had to add a ".txt" extension). I'm using the latest KindleHF binary from https://build.koreader.rocks/download/nightly/.

I use the start script instead of KOL as I get hit with the "device not targetted" error when I try to install KOL. But scripts in the "Documents" folder now support icons so I just stole the KOReader icon from the coversetter extension.
