I watch the 1951 version of Scrooge with Alastair Sim as Scrooge. Watched week before last on youtube and might watch again. It is hard to find on regular or cable TV but it will be on Movies! channel (1250 here on Spectrum NYC) at 8am and 8pm on Christmas.
A few days ago I watched Juror #2, new on Max (directed by Clint Eastwood). Also watched The Six Triple Eight on Netflix and Carry-On on Netflix. Carry-On is a new thriller. I could have done without it but it held my attention. The Six Triple Eight was very good, about the only American Black WAC unit that was sent to Europe during WWII (near the end) to sort out the mess of undelivered mail. That doesn't describe it well, but I recommend it highly. |

Finished Acorn's Harry Wild, kind of a slicked up remake of Hetty Wainthropp set in Dublin - have to wonder if HW is an intentional nod to Routledge's show?
Acorn's Long Shadow is well worthwhile, 1975 Leeds manhunt-gone-wrong with Toby Jones, David Morrissey, Lee Ingleby and others. |

I watched one episode of The Burning Girls last night. I'm not sure what to think of it. Both the writing and acting is, often, over the top. I do like the story though, so I'll probably finish it.

I watched Home Alone 2 and Scrooge (1951 Alastair Sim) on Christmas eve, very late at night. Christmas night I watched Surviving Christmas (2004 Ben Affleck, James Gandolfini). This was one of the silliest Christmas movies that I have been able to finish. I watched part of Love Actually, which I have seen many times. Bought digital a few years ago when I couldn't get it on my streaming channels. It was late, so I didn't finish. It is SO LONG for what it is.
Thursday night I watched Call the Midwife Christmas special (on dvr). 2 hours. Last edited by mlewis78; 12-27-2024 at 04:12 AM. |

As regards Scrooge aka A Christmas Carol, my favourite was always the Albert Finney version. |

I finished watching Love Actually tonight. i've seen it a number of times and I'm liking it less, but some of the stories and the ending made it worthwhile. |

I prefer the Alastair Sim version, although Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol is also good, as is the audiobook version by Patrick Stewart (he's been doing a one-man show of A Christmas Carol for years and he also did an excellent TV movie version).

2 more Walter Presents to recommend- Helsinki Crime and from Germany Private Detective Dengler, a bit more thriller-ish than most WP shows

Question about cataloguing my dvd's and blu-rays. Currently I have 4 sections: music (subdivided in concerts/shows/musicals live), stand up comedy, tv series and movies.
Included in the movies are movies where music is the main thing, not necessarily musicals, such as Spinal Tap, Rocky Horror Picture Show, Dirty Dancing (yes, my tastes are eclectic). Next week I'm expecting my order of the Ghost: Rite Here Rite Now blu-ray. And I have no clue in which section to put it; it's a concert but in between are bits about what is happening backstage (fictionalized). Does it go with concerts or with the regular movies. Or shall I make a new music sub section for music movies? |

We finished both La Brea and Nautilus this week. Both were entertaining, though not especially good.
Not sure what my sister wants to watch next. Maybe BBC's version of Ghosts. |
