You do not want 4.35. There were some bad version 4 firmware versions and I cannot say if that was one of them or not. Update to 4.38.23171.

Screen taps would not do a thing as it would be the cover touching the screen.

Button presses, maybe, but still unlikely. You would not want something pressing that hard against the Reader to press the button under the cover.

No, it was not. 4.37 versions were the ones with the database corruption issue.

I'm thinking about going back to 4.34 on my Sage myself, as since updating to 4.38 my Sage has developed an annoying habit of skipping a page when using the page forward button.

Well, aside from coincidence, I and another person have experienced this bug, so I’m just trying to narrow down what could be causing it. Kobo could have tweaked their code in a way that has made it oversensitive. I’m not saying that is what was done. That just speculation. I’m just trying to find out what could be causing it. Now I know we both have an official Kobo sleepover in common.

It still could just be a mechanical issue with the covers, but even sitting there on my table for a few hours untouched, the current ebook experienced a change in the last page read that I didn’t instigate. You’ve got to admit it is strange.

If this was happening to me beforehand, I didn’t really notice, but now with the new firmware, I’m noticing it quite a bit.

It could be a button problem where the button bounces. That's would be a hardware fault if it's so.

Why not go back to the previous firmware to see if the issue goes away?

Here's the things I can think of that could cause the last read page to change on reopening the book:

• Database corruption can cause the last page to not be saved, but then it will just keep going back to the same page
• kepub with bad span markers would leave the kobo no way to remember the position, and even rotating could make it jump to the closest span marker (renaming a epub to kepub might do this); I've seen bugs in kepub converters do this as well. Only such bug that did this with calibre was fixed long ago.
• Slight mechanical cover misalignment could cause buttons to be pushed. My cover has pockets on the inside of the cover where the buttons are
• (unlikely with a cover) something touching the screen while the device is awake; if the cover is not aligned correctly to keep the device asleep and something slipped under the cover... and if it was on a corner and stayed there a while, you could go into fast page turn mode and end up at the end of the book.

But both buttons do it - when I switch hands, the other button becomes the forward button. Besides, the issue is intermittent, not regular.

Anyway, I guess I'll see after reverting. If it still happens then, it's the hardware.

I suspect they sync, so their Kobo would just update again.

If the issue does go away with the older firmware, it's either put up with the issue or stop syncing and turn off WiFi.
