I've generally had a great experience using KoboTouchExtended, thank you so much to the developer!

One thing I noticed recently is that it's adding spaces around em dashes during auto-conversion when sending ePUBs (auto-converting to KEPUB) to my Kobo. Is there a way to stop this from happening? In the version history, bug 1246505 mentioned that this was fixed, but obviously it's still happening for me...

Thanks in advance for any insight.

Can you use the Scramble ePub plugin to upload a book to demonstrate the problem? Either an ePub I can convert or a KePub already converted should be fine.

Sure thing. I scrambled it, then sent to my Kobo, then grabbed the KEPUB from there. Both files are attached.

Example ePUB - original.epub

Example ePUB - after transferring.kepub.epub

For what it may be worth, kepubify does not add spaces around em dashes.

Can someone please fix the bug of adding spaced around an em dash when the ePub gets converted to KePub? Thanks.

Since you asked, maybe!

Version 3.7.2 is posted and should be offered by calibre within the next hour. This version attempts to fix highlighting with the new Kobo span generator, and should no longer add spaces around em-dashes during conversion.

Thank you for this. I assume this will solve the problem with the right/full justification being a little off when em dash is in the line?

I'm not sure. I've somehow never gotten a book with an em-dash, and I always read with left justification. Re-convert a book you've noticed a problem with and let me know how it goes?

Yay, this fixes them spaces-around-em-dashes thing, thank you!

Unfortunately, it seems to remove the spaces preceding <em> tags. This is an easier fix (edit the original to use <i> instead), just thought I'd mention.

I do see what OP was talking about when I justify my newly-converted KePUBs. The right edges of lines with em-dashes are just the slightest bit too short.

And I was wrong yesterday -- I thought changing <em> to <i> fixed the spacing, but it doesn't. Spaces still get removed before the opening tags.

I've seen similar issues with some recipes adding line breaks around highlighted words and hyperlinks. When I examined the text, I found a div with a class assignment that I assume was associated with a style sheet that turned off the line break that is default for div, and the style sheet wasn't included. (And misappropriation of the div tag by the web designer when other tags would have been better.)

What you are looking at might be something similar -- strangeness in the style sheet associated with (or missing from) the tags you are finding in the text.

After the update to 3.7.2, but a new ebook I've got had spaces removed before an italics. Is there anyway to rollback or to fix this somehow?

For example, this line shows up perfectly in the regular EPUB form.

Quote:
<p class="para"><span>Now, it is not possible to actually <i>focus</i> on two different points...
Upon auto-conversion to KEPUB on sideload, the space before "focus" disappears.

This happened on my Kobo, and I double checked with the Calibre reader to verify that it's happening with the converted file there too.

Attached two images for how they show up in the Calibre reader.

Old versions are available here. I've roll back to 3.7.1.
