I remember the Black Friday lines at the shops, Then when the doors opened, the stampede would happen. The stores had a few really good deals and not much stock. It was chaos. I never lined up. Some people didn't celebrate Thanksgiving because they were in line.

Black Friday is not a thing here. Some stores do try to advertise Black Friday sales, but no one really cares or pays attention to it. Just another foreign tradition that's never really been adopted in the backwoods here (like Halloween).

The online deals and "Cyper Monday" has taken a chunk out of Black Friday. Also, creep has caused Black Friday to be all of November.

Ye gods. It's 2:30 p.m. here and the light outside is already so dim that I had to switch a lamp on inside. The sun will set in an hour, but it seems it has already done so, there's just so little light. Granted, it's a very cloudy and grey day, and no snow either.
I really hate November. |

Yeah, but December is worse.
Still, you get this all back with interest in the summer. Even I complain about it getting dark too early. I'm in the US, but slid over a bit I'm in north Africa, not northern Europe. The forecast for today is sunny with a high of 78°F (25°C). |

Generally yes, but it often snows in December and that makes it seem lighter. It seldom snows in November and even if it does, the snow will melt away in a couple of days. The temperature here is usually above freezing in November.
Of course, sometimes December is pretty warm and snowless too. You just never know. |

Sunshine and cool (15 C). No freeze yet, the roses are still blooming.
I'm dreaming of a Green Christmas. . . |

A couple of weeks ago we got our package box installed next to the front door. It won't fit big boxes, most a lot of packages will fit. All delivery persons have been positive about it so far.
But our DHL driver thinks it's a community box I think. Three times already I had neighbours come to us because their package was delivered at our address and we found it in our box. Annoying, because what if we're on vacation or what if we expect something thinking it will fit in our box and it's full with other people's packages. So yesterday I spend over half an hour on the phone with DHL, they will tell their drivers not to do this anymore (at least they agree with me that it shouldn't happen), but can't guarantee it won't happen again. And I made a laminated note (in Dutch and English) asking not to leave packages for our neighbours. Once I get a plotter and some sticky vinyl I make something that looks nicer. |
