Congrats Issybird!!

I bought 1 more book than I read this month. Couldn't quite finish a book that I will finish today. My ebook wishlist is only one page and continues to shrink.

I did a 99c pre-order and otherwise only free stuff which I don't count as I am not buying it, just receiving it as a gift from them.

I haven't purchased a book this year.

However ....

I do have two non-resident library cards which cost me $120. Count that as you will but I'm satisfied with my spends.

Didn't buy any books in November, so I'm holding steady at ten on the year. My tbr is down 37.

Thanks! In the past three years counting back, I've bought 38/43/68 books, so this is a huge reduction for me. I don't really know what happened; it's as if a switch turned off. Finally, finally the books I own look as good to me as the books I don't, helped out by library borrows when I get the itch. Admittedly, the nerfing of the Kindle rewards beta program also made a difference.

Bought zero audiobooks in November. So while the TBR in that group came down, I'm still +42 for the year. Those darn site-wide member sales! Bought 5 ebooks for <$4 due to credits and timed Kindle Reward. So TBR is a bit up on that. I've completed Mom's series and just have a handful of the detective novels left so overall, my wishlist is pretty darn short now.

I was doing OK in the early years, 2002-2007, buying about as many ebooks as I read.

And then 2008 came. The ability to remove DRM from ebooks meant I went a bit wild, and bought over 500 ebooks. I haven't really recovered since.

For me it was the glory years of Kobo couponage. I'll never get through them all. I don't even have an absolute figure for my tbr; I just look at relative changes and let it go at that.

I've just checked how I've been doing on purchases.

2002-2007: ~170/year
2008-2008: ~ 500
2009-2014: ~ 320/year
2015-2019: ~ 280/year
2020-2024: ~ 120/year

Perhaps there's hope for me yet.

I was amused to find this earlier in this thread, from 2011.

At the end of 2014 my TBR was around 750. So that was around 200 down on my TBR in June 2011. But I was clearly feeling unreasonably optimistic.

Wouldn't the absolute figure just be books owned minus books read so far? Do you buy books you have no intention of reading, and thus they aren't on your TBR list?
