What E-reader devices would work the best with KOReader?

I've been a Kindle user for years and I really want to also use KOReader as I enjoy the detailed statistics. I thought of getting a new Kindle for that purpose, but then I read that only specific old firmwares can be jailbroken and work with it. Should I get a Kobo device? Pocketbook? Boox? There are so many and I don't know.. I'm looking for something affordable, preferably with USB type c port

I prefer to use KOReader on PocketBook e-readers, but this is a personal preference. The KOReader developers prefer Kobo for reasons that sound very convincing. In either brand you have a variety of e-readers to choose from.

Do you know if you can set Koreader as the default ebook application on Kobos so they launch with Koreader from the Kobo library (like you can with PocketBooks)?

Nope. That and opening links in the browser are available on pocketbooks and android but not kobos/kindles.

Ah, thanks for that. With that info I'd opt for Pocketbook's being a better option over Kobos for a Koreader experience then.

Yeah. Pocketbooks don't suck. Like cellaris mentioned we usually recommend kobos because, until now, there are much better supported and we handle the entire stack.

On pocketbooks and android we don't. There's middleware. There's also no developer with even one of the hundreds of supported devices, so YMMV.

In any case, if you choose pocketbook or android eink, do a quick search before purchasing or make sure the reader is easier to return if its broken under KOReader.

For instance: Pocketbook's wifi was broken on certain circustances for a few years. It got fixed recently (a year or so ago) but the problem still persists or is reported on *at least* one supported device running one of the many supported FW versions.

And that's the reason I couldn't recommend pocketbooks or android eink without DYOR.

Pocketbook in my experience.

With pocketbook, you can have koreader fully integrated. It can basically replace the the default reader.

Koreader opened directly from the library, updating read status in the library, setting the currently read book cover to the lock screen, etc.

The integration is better with pocketbook than with Android-based readers in my experience.
