Yes, that should provide a workable KFX file. The internal metadata will indicate that it is a personal document.

There are no tools for editing KFX format.

You can use the calibre book viewer to read KFX if the KFX Input plugin is installed. It will be automatically converted back to EPUB for viewing so it can be slow to open.

Change the KFX metadata writer so that if "Create personal document instead of book" is selected in the default settings for conversion to KFX format the resulting content type will be personal document (PDOC).

Colorsoft gets print replica KFX format for converted PDF documents, I assume that is the case for other 2024 Kindles. Reading position, highlights, & text notes sync with Scribe and the Kindle apps. But not handwritten notes.

So this should be updated in the guide:

Print Replica KFX format is only supported on Scribe devices, not on regular Kindles.

Wonder why Kindles still getting updates don't also get print replica KFX. They will render them if side loaded, right?

Color PDF files sideloaded to the Colorsoft are shown in black and white. It appears that the Colorsoft receives print replica KFX format because the regular PDF renderer on Kindles does not support color.

I have not seen any evidence that the other new Kindle models receive KFX instead of PDF and I do not know of any reason why they should.

They do appear to render properly on newer Kindles running the latest firmware, but not on older ones. I do not know what the cutoff is.

PDFs have never gotten much love in Kindle platform, they have gone to the trouble of adding print replica support with newer firmware, and it's far more functional (annotations sync and can be exported), so it's mystifying why they don't just enable it for download.

Detect Kindle Previewer versions up to 3.89.0.

By default the KFX metadata writer will no longer update the ASIN, CDEType, and Language fields of KFX books when they are exported from calibre since doing so can cause problems once the KFX file is sideloaded to a Kindle. Add plugin configuration option "Enable updating of all KFX metadata" that when checked will reenable the updating of those fields.

Use language code zh-hant in place of zh-TW when converting to KFX in order to enable Traditional Chinese language support on Kindles.

I saw the "tables with more than 20,000 characters not supported" error mentioned earlier, but I can't find a solution to get around this. What changes should we make in the file so that they will pass inspection? Thanks for the help.

If conversion fails for this reason one solution is to use the calibre editor to locate the large table and split it into two smaller tables. This will require some knowledge of html.

Ok, thanks for the reply. With these same books being able to be converted without the html editing (probably beyond me), is it possible that at some point in the future, the KFX conversion could use a similar process to successfully convert these?

It would take more effort than I care to make to change the plugin to automatically detect and correct this sort of problem.

I suggest using azw3 (aka KF8) format for books that do not convert properly to KFX.

Hello! I tried to use the CLI for converting my mangas from kpf to kfx but every time the CLI says syntax error there’s no “KFX Output” command. I’m using the latest calibre with the latest KFX plugins on MacOS. Thank you for the help guys!

Can you copy and paste the exact command that you are entering and the error produced?
