Don't you love buying things mail order? So much anticipation and waiting. It's my favorite way to shop. The delight of seeing the package at the front gate. Bringing it inside with a sense of triumph.

You should love your 505. It's a nice device.

Welcome to the board! I'm assuming by the fact that you haven't posted in a few minutes, that your reader made it to you?

You chose wisely (except maybe for color...)

Okay. I have to stop searching forums. Stories about horrible dell experiences are all over the place. I know it’s not that big of a deal. I want the reader one way or another, but it will still bug me to know that I could’ve gotten a better deal. It’s not the $$, it’s the principal.....okay it´s a little bit the $$$, I could buy several books with that extra fiddy bucks.

Cheers,
Max

Treat yourself to some of the free books from this site (or Feedbooks or Baen or...) to make up for it

Welcome to the forums!! I can't wait to hear you have your PRS-505 in hand. I have had mine for a little over a month, and I LOVE IT! Oh course, after I bought mine I kept seeing all these better deals, But oh well, what can you do, huh. I shopped around and got the best price that I could find. Anyway, enjoy. You should also come on over to the prs505 forum on this site. I love this website...it has been so helpful.

Hi all,
Nope havent got it yet. :O)
I thought I would update you on my Dell.ca experience. It seems that their online reputation for making the cancellation provess an arduous task is well deserved.
The rep I spoke with bottom-lined it for me by saying that: within 24 to 48 hours we will be able to tell if your order has or has not been cancelled. He said, and I quote, «It MIGHT be cancelled». That´s right : might. Wow, I am flabberghasted. I would never have expected this kind of poor customer service from a company that boasts of «award-winning customer service» on their web site. Oh well, you learn something new eveyday, right?

In any case, the people at shopRBC assured me that the 279$CAN sales price was going to continue for a couple of weeks (despite their website listing it as ending today). So perhaps I will be succesful with dell and able to order from RBC. At this point it really is a question of principle. I dont like companies that try to «hold customers hostage» so to speak. I would rather give my money to someone else.

Have no fear, I will get my PRS-505.

Cheers,
Max

Glad to hear it Max!

I'm expecting them to receive my new unit by the end of the week, I'll keep you posted!

Another bad thing about dell(.ca) is the fact they hold on to your money for about 30 days after you return something to them. I wasn't overly happy with that!

Cheers!

Hi everyone,
Here is the update (ad recap) on my Reader purchasing experience.

Monday morning 8 am: call Dell to cancel, get the runaround.
Write annoyed email to Dell customer service
Monday Noon: order at Dell begins «processing»
Write annoyed email to Dell customer service
Check with RBC to see if their sale is extended (it is)
MOnday 7pm: order from Dell is shipped
Write annoyed email to Dell customer service
Tuesday morning : call Dell to express discontent and ask about return procedure.
Write annoyed email to Dell customer service to emphasise my point.
Tuesday noon : order the reader from RBC
Tuesday later afternoon : reader ships from RBC. (Yippee)
Wednesday morning: picked up dell order from purolator, but must return it via UPS, which I will do tomorrow morning.
Wednesday noon : waiting for my RBC unit to arrive. Should be here today. )

Even with the fed ex express fee it was cheaper than the dell price. And dell just annoyed me too much, I fear it would have tainted my enjoyment of the product had I kept it. )

Cheers,
Max

It’s a beauty! Unfortunately I doubt I will have time to do more than take it out of the box tonight. Tomorrow night I’ll have some time to check it out.
