The lack of etymology info made me read in Koreader instead using dictionaries that have it. I'll have to try to install the old version of the dictionary.

Just install custom dictionaries for Kobo! It's trivial, supported, suvives upgrades and syncing wth WiFi.

There could be behind the scenes things that you don't know about. So I would go for it. In fact, I will go for it once my Libra 2 battery runs out enough to need charging. Then I'll charge it and install the firmware and the patches.

I wouldn't, if there's nothing listed I want or need. I don't update every program, app and device I have every time there's an update. I only update when there's something I really want.

Yes. At the moment everything is working as expected (other than occasional problems, such as the cover from the book I'm reading disappearing sometimes when I import other books). Absent some useful update being listed or mentioned here, it seems safer to leave well enough alone.

Even then, I'd wait until confirmation that the patches I use work with the new firmware.

Take a look in the thread "List of Official Kobo Dictionaries (v3)". I believe you'll find a link to a copy of the old OED which you can install as a custom dictionary

Thanks, Peter. Unfortunately in that list the OED is already updated to 2024. I was able to download the 2019 version from an old Kobo I have lying around, put in the custom-dict folder and renamed it to EN-2019. That worked.

I'm glad that you were able to do that. Is there any chance that you could make it available to others, please? I ran into the same problem when trying to find it in that old thread.
