What you'll also notice is that for the Kobo, as you go toward the middle of the page, it slides to white faster, and the gradients are much more pronounced, showing up as a halo effect as you go from one color to the next.

But again, I have to see it in person. The way the guy moves the devices all over and to and from the camera just isn't helping anything.
Neither is more accurate. They are both (IMHO) not good.

So maybe go outside with the Kindle for a few hours and come back to see it improve?
This isn’t a crazy idea. I put my Colorsoft in the sun (inside the house) for about an hour yesterday - no change.

If the window was closed much of the UV was blocked.

EDIT: That said, UV-A should pass through, and it looks like most curing is done in the UV-A wavelengths -- but I'm not sure.

I was sufficiently curious to take a look at the pbook cover at a local Chapters and also to look for images online.

Sadly the cover image on my Kobo Libra Colour was not great compared to the pbook cover. Even the online cover made it hard to accept the comparison.

Understood, that’s why I shared that the window was closed. When the sun comes out I may try it.

There’s a lot of conflicting information out there. We are just kicking crazy ideas around while we wait for accurate news about a solution.

Yeah, honestly i know it would be great but I find it hard to believe it's just a software problem that can be resolved with an update, that yellow light seems to be more about the leds and superior layer of the screen, i can't see how an update is gonna solve it... at the same time this "healing process" with the sun sounds even more crazy to me ahah

Look at the video at 3:17 and you will see that the text at the top of the screen is easier to read because there is more contrast with the Kobo.

Here is the screen grab from the video showing the last of contrast on the Kindle.

I did my own screengrab. In my opinion, two readers are prioritising different things. Whether that is down to hardware or software, I don't know. But as it is, on that example, Kindle is clearly rendering more colours. Compare orange cat on the right, and yellow blob in the middle. Kindle's rendering is gradual, while Kobo's colour transitions are harsh and plainly visible. But if we look at the whites of the eyes and teeth, then Kobo is clearly superior. Smother gradients, more detail all around. I'm pretty sure that's the reason behind Kobo appearing much brighter compared to Kindle. It does whites and greys better.

It'd be interesting to see comparison of black and white comics. Or any black and white art of different grey levels. If the difference is seen there as well, then it'd be willing to bet, that it's all down to hardware.

Without a copy of the original JPEG of the cover, there's no way to tell which is "better". The original might have more variation in the "white" than you would suspect, and so the Kindle is more accurately depicting the lack of smoothness.

It does look like the Kindle image rendering is handling gradient dithering much better differently.

The Kindle seems better on colour, and the Libra on B&W gradients.

But look at the top of the screen and you'll see the text on the Kindle is hard to read but not so on the Kobo. Also in another comparison video, you can clearly see how the Kindle has lost a lot of fine detail in some of the comic images.

Yes, the color can be stronger on the Kindle, but with a loss of detail and sometimes muddy graphics. Neither is good enough (IMHO).
