No More Library mp3 audiobooks!

I'm NOT a happy camper about this, to say the least. I hate Libby, and I won't use it. At least I can still use Audible and convert (with Libation) to M4B/MP3 to play on the device of my choice. But it completely removes the library as a source for audio books as far as I'm concerned.

I'm trying not to hate it. While I do buy a lot of audiobooks, I read so many audiobooks that giving up my library as a source becomes cost prohibitive.

P.S. I should add that my attempts to not hate Libby have not been successful thus far.

Re: pirating material, I can't see a reason Overdrive and Audible would go to such lengths to protect their investment and then hint that it would be ok to pirate said materials.

Anyone that did figure it out probably wouldn't want word spread in fear that they would close that loophole too......

This is a big blow to me too, I routinely download books onto my small and light Sandisk mp3 player and away we go to the gym, out for walks and driving. I do have a smartphone that would probably play the Libby app, but why on earth would I want to carry that heavy thing around?

The only thing that is going to happen if you contact Overdrive is that they will blow you off as I noticed happened to another person. What I would suggest you do is to contact your library management instead. They are Overdrive's customers and if enough of THEM contact Overdrive, they may begin to listen about leaving the app alone. If you don't get satisfaction from the library staff, have them tell you who the council representative is on the library board and call them. Maybe if we can generate enough pushback to Overdrive by these people who are their customers we can do something. Am calling my library this afternoon.

I think it is too late for that, this is Overdrive's decision. They gave us about a year's reprieve for the Windows version but it is going away. Really stinks but that's their decision.

Perhaps but there are several apps/programs that convert AAX and Audible didn't shut them down so it could happen. Just don't know if anyone is working on it.

I came across something called Libbyfetch that was linked from a Reddit thread, but it uses Python and it's completely baffling to me. I hesitate to include the link, but if you Google Libbyfetch, the Reddit thread with the link will come up.

Today's snail-mail included an Audible offer for an annual membership for $86. With library borrowing now being so screwed up, I am seriously considering it.

I guess I'm going to have to figure out how to deDRM Audible files, unfortunately. I don't like the learning curve on that kind of thing and my Audible library isn't what I like to listen to while swimming, but it seems to be the only option. I really can't justify the (full) price of a credit on junk listens. I have to hope that the 99¢/month deals keep coming, which will give me a little latitude, but it will still be far short of my requirements.

Thanks. I just have to get up my nerve, lol!

My real problem is my unalterable tendency to look for "bang for my buck" Audible books, i.e., long and serious. Not what I want to listen to while swimming. But I was just able to reup for another three months at 99¢ per, so I should try to pick up a few lighter listens.

Libation is a great, and easy to use, program to get your Audible books onto your computer. It's fantastic!
