Search results are not problematic if you accidentally select something, as you can return to the search page and keep going from where you were. On the Voyage and Oasis, there were several contexts where the buttons were not set up to page/scroll, as I think I remember they did on the earlier Kindles with page buttons. So IMO they don't really do buttons as I would expect or as consistently as, say, PocketBook. And as I've probably said a few dozen times here, my hands did not find Oasis very comfortable. Voyage was much more comfortable and flexible about how I could hold and operate it. |

I tried the Voyage at an Amazon pop-up store in the mall way back when, and didn't personally find it better than my Oasis. |

It was also great that the old devices had the 3G service.
It also amuses me that I paid $380 for all that in the Oasis, and people complain about the Colorsoft price... I am skeptical of them being able to adequately solve the Colorsoft screen problem with software. As I think I mentioned earlier, I can see that my Oasis has screen color variations too...you just have to really stare at it to see. The Colorsoft is just more obvious at the bottom, but most don't seem to notice it's over the entire unit...the color is definitely cooler and pinker near the top, and warmer and orange-y near the bottom. Heck, even computers and phones have slight variations over the entire screen. You just have to put up a white background with nothing on it, and really stare, and you'll see. Now why is it so noticeable on the Colorsoft and with the new Paperwhites? I assume it has to do with where the lights are placed and how the signal coming out of them changes over distance, and manifests itself as a color difference, as the light travels from one end of the screen to the other. I'm sure one of my electrical engineer friends could explain it. ![]() |

Here is another video comparing the Kindle to the Kobo. The contrast of the Kindle is really poor.

As I've stated before, checking out videos as a way to be sure of image details is really being ignorant of just what goes on to get these videos to play over the Internet.
But if we ignore that for a minute, we can tell there are really different things going on with how the two devices render images. The Colorsoft is doing some smoothing where the Kobo is not. I still say the Kobo's image is more blown out. Lack of contrast in Colorsoft image compared to the Kobo? That's confirmation bias going on. |

This is not bias of any kind. This is what I'm seeing in multiple videos. One video I am waiting for is a comparison from GoodEReader. While they don't do very good reviews, they do shoot quite good video in 4K. Last edited by JSWolf; 11-04-2024 at 11:20 AM. |

At some point one has just to enjoy a thing for what it was designed for and stop obsessing over details. I play electric guitar, and see the same thing over there: people endlessly debating over variations in guitars and effects pedals, when in the end they're all great. Stop agonizing over perceived differences and just play.
Same here: stop agonizing over minor things and just read. |

Hard to tell because he can't get close enough with his camera, and he's moving the darn things around so much it keeps going out of focus. Plus the two fonts are different. I'd say the Kobo text here looks greyer, but again, you cannot make accurate judgments like this from a video.

The text contrast can be easily changed on both units with the sliders to increase the weight. Look at the video at 3:17 and you will see that the text at the top of the screen is easier to read because there is more contrast with the Kobo. Here is the screen grab from the video showing the last of contrast on the Kindle. Last edited by JSWolf; 11-04-2024 at 11:28 AM. |

You'd have to see the original art to know which device is replicating it more truly, and why the color of that top text is a little more similar to the background on the Colorsoft than the Kobo. I don't think "contrast" is the right word to describe this difference.
What you'll also notice is that for the Kobo, as you go toward the middle of the page, it slides to white faster, and the gradients are much more pronounced, showing up as a halo effect as you go from one color to the next. But again, I have to see it in person. The way the guy moves the devices all over and to and from the camera just isn't helping anything. |

About yellow screens, there is a speculation that this glue can be cured with UV.
As it happened with other tech before: https://community.oneplus.com/thread/70070 So maybe go outside with the Kindle for a few hours and come back to see it improve? |
