Help Please.

I just downloaded Calibre and when I double click on the Calibre start guide, all that comes up is the cover. None of the text shows up. I tried to add a couple of books and the same thing happened. Just the cover of the book shows up, none of the actual content of the book. I am new to this app and don't know what the problem is. Has this happened to anyone else? Can anyone help me with this? Thanks.

Press the spacebar or the page down key to advance past the cover. Or scroll with the your touchpad or mouse wheel.

Sorry guys, but there is also an online manual. I've got on well with the online help and the forum here for four years, especially for the basics

This is not an issue with the manual. It's an issue with the OP not being able to properly use the viewer.
